Your favorite finesse hardbait!

Post by spookybaits » Wed Jul 30, 2014 6:58 am

Guys lets talk finesse hardbaits

What's everyone's favorite finesse hardbaits these days?
Say.... In the 1/4oz or less range. (Feel free to add line info, rod/reel pairing, etc).

I hope to be getting a few dedicated finesse setups this year(finally) and need to expand my finesse bait catalog.

I'll go first-

cranks
-Bagley honey b (custom paint) (1/4oz).
-imakatsu scare brow 48 (5/16oz)
-imakatsu little bats (1/7oz)
-MB quiet griffon sr-x (1/4oz)

^All fished on 10lb mono(sufix siege) or 10lb sufix flouro.

jerkbaits
- yo-zuri pins minnow (1/8oz)

^4-8lb mono or flouro

topwater
-older model zara puppy(1/4oz)
-mb pop-x (1/4oz)
- arborgast hocus locust (1/4oz)
^On 10-14lb mono

I plan on trying the little jdm 'shad type' baits: like mb shading-x, imakatsu wasp, do-no shad, dilemma, Evergreen spin move shad, etc.
Anyone fish any of these 'shad' type baits?

Pin's minnow is a great for sure!

I really like the rapala UL series. The ultra light minnow in particular. It's really cast-able and the sink rate is almost painful slow. Really productive and fun.

I like Lucky Craft Pointers but they are around 3/16oz

They just always run true and kick ass :)

I don't believe weight or size has anything to do with "finesse". I've known many fat girls who could dance very light on their feet!

The size 8 Rapala Flat Rap is a little over 3" and it is my favorite jerkbait and topwater since I use it to twitch on top and well as work it aggressively under the surface also. For crankbaits, it is a little tougher, I would have to say the Manns Baby One Minus but a close second would be the Bomber Square A but the Storm Sub Wart is right up there but discontinued and I don't have enough time on the Sebile Crankster SR 50 which I don't have enough time with. There are others that I've had success with but these are the ones that seem to be consistent catchers.

Clean, warm water, tough fish = Jackal Seira Minnow 70S (JDM). If it's really tough I got a 55S as well. Rod Evergreen Temujin Spider, Stella C2000HGS and Stroft ABR 3kg.

I fish mostly 9" swimbaits, but when I want to go finnesse I throw the IMA Roumba. Not to sure it is really finnesse but it looks so small next to the swimbaits.

I like to throw the RC/LC 0.5 and catch a ton of fish on them. Early summer when the bait is small, redfish and bass eat these when they won't touch much else. Also like the SKT mini MR and DR as finesse cranks in the fall through spring. For jerkbaits, i like the Lucky Craft Spazz 85 (3 1/4"/3/16oz) for trout and reds. Those are about as small as I will go around here.

My favorote small cranks for use are the Imakatsu Little Bats and Jackalls Cherry 44. For jerkbaits I use the Megabass Stepcats and X55, but have started using Duo Realis and Tetra Works lures the past season. My favorite thing to throw on spinning gear are the 1-2g JDM spoons I get from troutshop.jp. Caught my personal best Walleye of 12lbs on a 1.8g spoon.

My three main combos are:
PX68 ZPI CP301, Hedgehog Air, 8lb Shooter, Evergreen Gazzele SGS
Aldaebaran MG Avail Honeycomb, Hedgehog Air, 5.5lb Toray Super Finesse, Evergreen Kaleido Designo Quad Light
Twin Power C2000S, 15lb Toray Seabass PE, 6lb leader, Evergreen Kaleido Designo M-1
