Best shallow cranks for fishing over weedbeds?

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a good shallow/super shallow crankbait to fish over grass beds. The pond I have been fishing has grass coming up to about 1-2 feet below the surface. I was throwing a Lucky Craft BDS2 today and I kept getting hung in the grass so need something a bit shallower - something that goes down about 12-18 inches. I was looking at the Rapala DT Fat 1, the Duo Realis 48SR and the Megabass FX Knuckle 60 (set on the shallow setting this should work).

Any insight to the lures I mentioned or other suggestions?

Believe it or not, the Strike King 1XS is my all-time ace bait in that specific situation.

Lucky craft rc 2.5 or rc1.5 wakebait.I have caught a lots of fish with those bait over the years. You could take the Lucky craft lc version of the rc , it is exactly the same bait except for the color.

I really like the Rapala DT Fat 01 but it is a big body, it does generate a lot of strikes but the smaller fish don't ever seem to get hooked well. The other baits I recommend are the Storm sub wart, if you can find them, or the Mann's Baby 1 minus, the sub wart is more erratic but the 1 minus just flat out catches fish.

Rapala Rippin Rap.

I use the 5/16th oz size, in white.

it runs quite shallow.

River2Sea Snub crank- this one's a real sleeper. using a med. action spinning set-up and 6# line.

Storm Sub-wart (if you can find them), Bandit Footloose (tighter wiggle than Sub-wart), Rapala Flat Rap (casts farther than original minnow bait), original Rapala balsa minnow baits, walking top water baits, prop top water baits.

shad shaped- mann's minus 1 or a wakebait
minnow shaped- yozuri edge minnow floating

1-minus series is my favorite for shallow runners. I use em all, tiny, baby, mid and full size and they all work wonderfully.
