What size KVD Squarebill do you use? 1.0, 1.5, 2.5

Post by mprestonSEK » Sun Mar 03, 2013 10:35 am

I have used every size in the series, and at least for me, the most productive size is the 1.0. I have caught a lot of fish on the 1.5 as well, but it's still not as successful as the 1.0. The main forage where I fish is bluegill, so I mainly stick to the different bluegill patterns. Whenever I throw the 2.5, I do not catch much at all. It is just not the right size for where I fish. Just gotta match the hatch.

What size in this series and what colors do you have the most success with?

Just picked up some 1.0's. So... All of them. In Chart/Black Back and Sexy Shad.

The 1.5's work best for me in bluegill, sexy shad, and chartreuse with black back. The 2.5's work well if I'm catching mostly small bass and want get some bigger ones from the school to bite. I have not tried the 1.0 yet.

The 1.5 is the only one of that series, when I want the bigger version I either use the DT Fat 3 or the Xcalibur XCS 200 series. A big part of the reason is those larger ones from SK dive a little deeper than I want on a fast retrieve.

The 1.5 by far. I don't have any 1.0 size yet but I do have one 2.5 in Sexy Shad. I catch a few fish on it but the 1.5 seems to be the ticket for me. I forget the actual name but the white side black back color works best for me. Followed closely by the chartreuse black back. Any time the water gets a little stain to it this color just kills'em. I have one of this color bait that I've caught close to 75 bass on. That's the most fish I've ever caught on a single bait before.

Sexy Shad works but it doesn't seem quite as effective as the white/chartreuse black back baits for me.

1.5 in Chartreuse Black Back for cold or stained water early in the spring and Green Gizzard for clearer water.

1.5's are what I use the most. Sometimes I'll throw the 2.5's. I don't own any 1.0's- that's what Bandits are for

1.5's are what I use.
gizzard shad, green gizzard shad and chart black back are the 3 I like. Although I am fond of the chart perch colour Sk offers, just haven't bought one yet. It looks nice!

More often than not I use the 1.0. The 1.5 I'll use if I'm searching for a bigger bite.

I use the 1.5 the most in the bluegill or sexy shad color. For bigger bites I go with the 2.5 in chart/black back or sexy shad. Finally, I use the 1.0 during tougher conditions and my favorite color to throw with the 1.0 is chrome sexy shad.

All of them. I like the 1.5 most of the time, the 2.5 when I need a big bite, and the 1.0 when it's tough.

I stock up on 1.5 but I agree when the bite gets tough I grab the 1.0.

I have all three sizes. I fish the 1.5 the most but I have made a conscious decision to fish more 2.5. All catch fish - just make sure you put the KVD trebles on there...they are outstanding.

The new flat/medium diving KVD is incredible. I will be using that bait extensively.

I have to agree here, the KVD trebles are very effective. Especially the 1.5 with #2's, that bait/hook combo really sticks them well. I can't recall a single fish I've had come unbuttoned using this set up. I'm sure a few have here and there I just can't recall a specific time.

I think that's the third set of #2 trebles I've gone through on the bait I posted earlier. These hooks are strong, stay sharp a good while, and I've not had any rusting problems whatsoever. The only time I can think of that I've had a problem with one was when a fish got hooked in the hardest part of the jaw I was using pliers to try and remove the hook and it just broke. Didn't bend first, just snapped.

Great hooks though, highly recommended.
