Anybody use clear color baits
Anybody use clear color baits
Never used a clear color lure aka see through bait. Wheather top water, jerk, crank? Curious if its better only during bright sunny clear water to semi clear.....

Re: Anybody use clear color baits
If you like to fish topwater and the have any bodies of water near you that are gin clear, then clear is what you need to have! I have a buch of clear lures like the old model zara spook, some dying flutters, and even torpedos. As far as subsurface baits are concerned, I never tried any but I know the topwater really works when others won't but if the water has any kind of stain to it forget clear, that is the problem, they work in crystal clear water and not much else.

I use clear topwaters most of the time but not only on gin clear water as long as it has a foot or two of visibility I will use clear.

Thanks ya, just curious...
Re: Anybody use clear color baits
I dont really use clear but I do use alot of "ghost" color lures. They are truely effective topwaters.

I always have an x-rap or Husky Jerk or two in glass ghost. Good color for everything except really stained water, when I'll go with firetiger, etc

I like the Rapala Glass Ghost pattern but it is not even close to clear or a normal ghost pattern, a lot of holographic flash so I would put that in a different catagory. Most ghost colors use a very light brown or olive on the back and side to give the lure a real subtle appearance like it is almost not there and like the clear it is somewhat transparant.Backbay wrote:I always have an x-rap or Husky Jerk or two in glass ghost. glass ghost and clear pointers are killer for fall walleyes/musky/pike when waters clear after turnover in the fall
Re: Anybody use clear color baits
Yes I use a Tiny Torpedo that is clear for those times when nothing seems to work, usually in hot weather.

like them in clear water situations. LC makes a phantom chart rip bait that looks really good even in stained water and works well. But mostly in clear water situations and a lot of high sun.

I use clear Senko's with a lunker light shoved in 1 or both ends at night. You just set the hook when the lights go out.

Clear lures can work really well and are seriously underrated. Another good "color" is chrome - a smooth chrome lure will reflect it's environment and blend in well. One of the biggest snook I ever caught was 30lbs. taken on a chrome crankbait at night.

Like mentioned before, I like clear topwaters.

Yes... In my area we have lots of Gin Clear Waters full of Bronzebacks. I just add a dressed treble for a target. Always have a clear model of every topwater bait I own for those days.
