color vs water clarity
color vs water clarity
I use my chartreuse jerk baits in murky water. Natural colors in clear water. When do I use my chrome sides with black back jerk baits? Also Im thinking of picking up a white jerk bait also, would I use that in clearer water?
Thanks for any help

Re: color vs water clarity
I usually fish ghost colors in clear water, sunny days like the Megabass GP colors. If the water's clear but it's a dark dreary day I will throw the silver/gold sided baits. i will also fish those baits along w/ the bright chartruese/orange colors in dingy water. although I don't have a lot of experience w/ heavy stained water; 98% of my fishing is done in 2-8ft of water clarity. I'm sure that Damien could give the best answer here though, he's seems to be the jerk bait guru

Chrome plated jerkbaits work best for me when there is plenty of sunshine to reflect off the bait. Cloudy dark days can be great jerkbait days (especially in clear water), but I'll choose a ghost or baitfish pattern.
Spend a little time fishing a your chrome plated jerks along an outside weedline on one of those bluebird sunny days.

I just stick to the colors I have confidence in, regardless to sky conditions. If the water has a deep stain I will go bright. I can honestly say that my go to confidence colors have produced for me on all waters I have fished (likely all in my head), but confidence is a huge advantage IMO. If it doesn't have an orange belly I typically don't use it.

ive also read that bright sunny days are the time and place to use chrome and american shad colors i really never had any luck in using them though because in the reservoirs i fish in bass are typically finicky(almost feels like a gimmick color but they are made all around so they have to work in some situations). i can see them working better in lakes with aggressive fish but then again confidence baits always produce .

I've always had good results using white lures in muddy water. In clear water, natural colours have always worked great. But, I don't fish for bass....there are none in my region but this works out very well for walleye.
Re: color vs water clarity
I use silver or gold sided baits in clear water when it is sunny and the wind is blowing. They consistently produce fish for me and are my go to colors that I start out with. I like gold sides, black back, orange belly if it is cloudy.
Re: color vs water clarity
i fish stained water where 3 ft is as clear as it gets.it's usually 6" to 18".the chrome/gold/white/chart are the most visible on sunny days imho.....chrome or gold if you want flash.
