Favorite shallow crank (0-3ft)

Post by Craiger12 » Thu Jan 05, 2012 9:14 pm

What have been your most productive shallow cranks for when fish are in that really shallow water? There are so many options that it gets a little overwhelming. I have been looking around and a couple that look good to me are the LC BDS and the Spro Fat John. I'm willing to spend a little more if the baits are worth it. What do you guys think of these and what others would you recommend?

The Lucky Craft BDS3 is mentioned a lot on the forums. I have some but haven't thrown them yet. I do really like the Spro Little John, but have yet to use the fat version. The other baits I'd suggest looking at are the Ima Bill Lowen square bill and the Lucky Craft RTO 1.5 (from BPS).

I came across that particular bait. Is that the new version of the Lucky Craft RC which is currently a BPS exclusive?

This is tough for me as I have a favorite wake bait which is the Manns Waker elite. To me that doesn't count as a shallow crank but more of a topwater and that leaves the Manns baby 1 minus and the Rapala DT Fat 3, and if I had to choose I think the DT Fat 3 would be it just because it is more verstile than the 1 minus. I can fish the Fat 3 and catch bass over stumps or weedbeds but more importantly I can get the bait down in that 3' of water and actually bang into cover and present the lure to more fish.

+1

Next in line would be Korrigan SR's. I will be throwing MR's with heavy line so hopefully that will make them swim shallower.

Downside is if you have toothy critters, be ready to lose them
I will NEVER sell another 3:16 swimbait again!

That is correct. It is what was once the RC 1.5. Only the color schemes appear to have changed.

bds 2.

you can wake it, burn it, machinegun it, bump-and-run it or even steadyeddie it...year in/year out, it is my
strongest producer in skinny water.

american shad in cold water, matt pumpkin in clear, caramel apple in stained.
don't cry because it's over...smile because it happened.

Manns Baby 1 minus works great for me. They will catch large fish too, 13lbs is my largest on that small bait.

Rick Clunn .5's, both LC and LES versions. Call me crazy, but a close second is the classic rebel craw 8-)

Hard to beat the H2O Xpress CRS, they run great out of the box, and the best thing is the price $3.99
