How good are Lucky Craft Spybaits?

Post by Drakestar » Wed Jul 22, 2020 10:48 pm

I've been fishing Duo Realis spybaits almost exclusively. Curious about the Lucky Craft Screw Pointer 80 - I expect good things from Lucky Craft in general, and these are quite a bit cheaper. Should I try them out? Any side-by-side comparisons?

I bought one of them off Amazon ($12, pretty cheap for a spybait). Haven't fished it yet, but some observations: profile is very similar to the Duo Realis 80 size (on top for comparison). But it's much heavier: 0.46oz with stock hooks vs 0.37 for a Duo Realis G-Fix (which is already their heavier version, intended for baitcasters). I shaved off some weight by replacing the stock hooks (which didn't feel great, anyway) with Gamakatsu Finesse Trebles; now it's 0.42oz. Will see how it fishes when I'm back at a spybait fishery.

Caught a largemouth on it yesterday. Seems fine, propellers do what they need to do, but I do feel like I have to work it a bit faster and it doesn't shimmy down as well as the Duo. No big surprise there. Might get another in a shad color once I run out of Duos.
