Thx. I have used it for pike leaders. Does it work with thinner line for trout and seatrout?
Braid to Leader - what's your knot of choice?

I haven't used it much. But surely it weakens FC.
Currently I tie FC knots at my home and store those to Minigrips. In a fishing just tie those my double Uni to my main line.

Side comment, if you're going to go through the effort to tie a midnight knot, you might want to consider using hollow braidbobmatsuoka wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 5:34 amMidnight is my favorite. More slim amd stronger than others when tied correctly.
Sorry. I haven't sent it. Very busy and I forgot.
Last week I received a spool of line I have purchased to try, and it came with a knot manual. I'm attaching it. See the strenght %.
The link below is from a friend of mine, tying his version of midnight. He is a brazilian fishing guide. Sorry that it is in portuguese. He says in the end, that a final tight is needed to finalize the knot. The vídeo doesn't show it.

I've gone back to Alberto after going through Seider's recommended doubled Alberto, the Seaguar Knot, and the FG Knot. The Alberto is easy to tie, small enough, and is STRONG.

No one ever seems to talk about a J knot. It’s hard to tie with a long leader, but I only have to do it once. It easily lasts a full day of tournament fishing, and I’m talking Great Lakes/St Clair smallmouth fishing…. Where you catch a LOT in a day and big ones too.

What did you think
Re: Braid to Leader - what's your knot of choice?
I have been using Seiko Knot Assist Tool for FG knot. But it twist severely braided, so lastly I have been made FG's without tool:

In my use FG knots assist tool does not make knot any faster, but now I'm thinkin might it do knot actually better or worse...
So it creates twist to braid. Twist might not do braided stronger, or might it? Sure it makes braided to tighter package, which is usually good. But my FG's has usually failed by FC elognation. So it's FC that fails. Might non-twisted 'soft' touch of braided better than twisted 'hard' touch?
similar than hi does in his video: In my use FG knots assist tool does not make knot any faster, but now I'm thinkin might it do knot actually better or worse...

I use uni to uni. Unless your guides are micros, it passes just fine. Also, I don't reel it onto the reel spool. My knot stops just outside the line guide.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.
Re: Braid to Leader - what's your knot of choice?
Last time I let fluoro free end 1 mm too long (FG knot) and it stuck my top guide and rod got broken. Uni to uni is always at least that bad.hoohoorjoo wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 12:58 pmI use uni to uni. Unless your guides are micros, it passes just fine. Also, I don't reel it onto the reel spool. Wow, that sucks! I dont use flouro. Mono or copolymer is always easier on the guides. I've never damaged a rod or a guide in the last15-20 years that I have used braid + leader. You can cut the tag end of the knot very short IF you use a dab of gel super glue, which is what I do. I've also never had a knot fail when using this method.jvelth74 wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 1:42 pmLast time I let fluoro free end 1 mm too long (FG knot) and it stuck my top guide and rod got broken. Re: Braid to Leader - what's your knot of choice?
It was human error. I was hurry to go to river to test my new lightest rod with smallest guides and it was definitely not to recommended to use strong FC leader in it, and my knot was bad that time, but I went to testing anyway. In first cast it stuck. After second cast I noticed that I don't have top guide anymore. But it didn't ruined total that rod. It shortened only half inch. I have used it. It's strange rod anyway. Kuying TTC, trout magnet rod.
Re: Braid to Leader - what's your knot of choice?
I do reel it onto the spool (at least on occasion), and that's where FG works much better for Daiwa TW reels. Otherwise I'd be happy with uni-to-uni, as well.hoohoorjoo wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 12:58 pmI use uni to uni. Unless your guides are micros, it passes just fine. Re: Braid to Leader - what's your knot of choice?
RP knot which afaik is just the Alberto. 5 up and down.
In my personal fishing using from 3 to 80lb braid and from 2 to 30lb fluoro and mono, this knot covers it all. Fast and easy to tie in windy conditions, casts through anything but JDM UL rod super duper micro guides easily. My knot has never failed me on a fish. If your knot fails you, you tied a bad knot
