Some messy knots when cast in an over spirited manner can dislodge guide inserts...

And braid... Let's not forget the much loved Tatula T Wing grooving issue...
There were many reports of grooved twings from strictly FC/Mono use no braid.

All the Tatula T Wings I replaced under warranty were strictly from braid use.

9e6Running straight braid shouldn't be a issue what so ever. now saying I know when spiderwire or fireline I cant remember which one first came out it was grooving guides on rods like 20 years or more ago.

I think you're remembering Stren Kevlar braid, which quickly was taken off the market for that reason.

I feel that these discussions need to take the age of the fishing gear into account. For bass fishing, braid to leader became popular over the last... what, 10 years? Manufacturers have adjusted since then, and modern gear (which almost everybody on this board fishes, I think) will handle braid perfectly. But should you worry about braid damaging your dad's 20-year old bass rods and reels? Yeah, probably.
