Best braid for spinning reels?
Re: Best braid for spinning reels?
New 8lb Sufix 832 has been great on my new Stradic!!! We have used the 10lb, 20lb, and 15lb (spinning), 30lb (casting) in my household.
Sufix has never failed me, just buy a size under what's normal and it will help casting, it is very thick in diameter and going down helps to match up better. I would normally use 10lb regular PowerPro on a ML spinning, so I would use 8lb or even 6lb Sufix 832. I had a bad time with SuperSlick in 10lb and 40lb, just frayed a lot, never broke or lost lures, casted fine too, just looked like it was in rough shape WAY to early.

38 steel head this winter using uni to uni zero failure. Double Palomar to hardware. Works for me.BRONZEBACK32 wrote:I've read the only decent leader knot for fireline 8 is the PR knot.
Our tradition is that of the first who sneaked away to the creek when tribe did not really need fish

I have 20lb smackdown on my 2500 Stella, lb overkill but lighter seems too thin..I use floro leaders.
I have yet to find a better braid than smackdown

So far my favorite for ml rods is 15 832 and medium rods 20. I run a 2000 size reel on the ml and 2500 on the medium.

Just bought the YGK G Soul sinking braid. Pretty impressed with it. Was using SX1 which I thought was excellent.

How's the feel? Can you feel anything on a slack line?Finnz922 wrote:Just bought the YGK G Soul sinking braid. Pretty impressed with it. Was using SX1 which I thought was excellent.
This is the way.
Re: Best braid for spinning reels?
No line, if truly slack, will give you feedback out her than possible visual. That is a reason many go to high vis line

It was very windy so a feel for sensitivity and really being able to see it sink was tough. I did really like how it casts and laid on my Tat LT. I never did hook up. Another tournament next week.poisonokie wrote:How's the feel? Can you feel anything on a slack line?Finnz922 wrote:Just bought the YGK G Soul sinking braid. Pretty impressed with it. I disagree, it seems the wiry stiffer braids create more sensitivity vs very soft limp braids.NHBull wrote:No line, if truly slack, will give you feedback out her than possible visual. That is a reason many go to high vis line
Re: Best braid for spinning reels?
I also saw those results, but found that I get around 78% with the FG in 6lb Fireline 8 and and 12 or 20 lb Schneider klear line leader. FG tied with 18 wraps and a 7 turn Rizutto finish.BRONZEBACK32 wrote:I've read the only decent leader knot for fireline 8 is the PR knot.

I disagree with this too, as I've felt vibrations through slack fluorocarbon.NHBull wrote:No line, if truly slack, will give you feedback out her than possible visual. That is a reason many go to high vis line
That's possibly the number one reason for using it.
This is the way.

Re: Best braid for spinning reels?
Duel hardcore is pretty good line, I sent some to aquaholik to test its knot strength.
The problem I had it tying this line using a FG knot to 6lb sunline fluorocarbon.
Here is what aquaholik got from his results testing 10lb duel hardcore 8-
ABS : 22.80 lbs, 24.35 lbs = 23.58 lbs average
Line Mass : 11.1 mg/ft, 10.9 mg/ft = 11.00 mg/ft ----> .0091 in or .232 mm. Very slightly thinner than Fireline Ultra 8 lbs and J Braid 10 lbs and definitely thinner than Fins 40 G 15 lbs.
S/W ratio = 2.14 which is very good and very comparable to Gliss 24 lbs.
FG:
Test 1 , 20 wraps each side, 4 alternating half hitches, 4 turn Rizutto finish = 19.80 lbs
Test 2 , 16 wraps each side, 4 alternating half hitches = 20.60
So average FG knot strength = 20.20/23.58 = 86%

Re: Best braid for spinning reels?
I use light braids and typical Fireline. Anywhere from 4# Fireline to 30# braids.
I still have the old Fireline braid on a spinning setup. I can't remember, but I think it's 6 strands. I've also used a lot of Sufix Performance and 832 braids. Performance is the noisy one but fares far better for bottom rigs for catfishing and stuff. 832 is pretty good. The Fireline braid in similar diameter and #test will get more distance on the cast.
There's just so many good ones now.

Re: Best braid for spinning reels?
I've been wanting to try YGK. I have never been able to get on with braid, unless it's tight everything just feels dead with it to me. I see TW has a new version that has an FC core and is supposed be denser.Finnz922 wrote:Just bought the YGK G Soul sinking braid. Pretty impressed with it. Was using SX1 which I thought was excellent.
