Braid That Keeps Its Color

Post by Greg64 » Thu Mar 29, 2018 4:03 am

This has probably been asked, before; but, are there any braids that retain their color? And, does it really matter; if, one is tying a leader to the braid?

Vicious No-Fade Braid. Last year I used it on my Chatterbait reel. I caught over a 1000 fish on it and it is still green.

Power Pro Super Slick High Vis Yellow has held its color for years on multiple reels for me.

Fins holds its colors the best by far and Gamma is not far behind, but I don't mind a little fading. I run 832 which fades, but it really doesn't matter. But based on performance

I have had black velvet on a couple of my reels for two years. The reels have seen use on perhaps 10-20 trips. Line is still pitch black...

I find that Sunline SX1 and FX2 retain color longer than most.

Only one i've found is fins 40g
because it's inside
Color isn't absorbed into braid....it's a coating

ANd it really doesn't make much difference.

In 20 years of only using braid as a main line. I never thought to myself...damn I didn't catch today...I need to change braid colors or freshen up.

you're better off with a white or yellow braid if you're using a leader so that way you can line watch easier.

black white red or blue.....fish don't know it's fishing line
They see it....but it's part of the environment to them.
Everything else is marketing

The only negative about fading braid is it gets in the crevaces of your reel :)

The only thing I can say is....alternating color lines like tracer..where the patterns are close and abruptly changing....may have an impact...not sure.....but in fw applications while it's great for line watching...it may have a negative impact. I love it for salt but seldom use it in fw or clear water

This is the way.

This x2, it does not fade or leak dye.

Good stuff.

Daiwa Samurai Braid stays green...the first few uses you're going to have green hands, but once that initial break in occurs, then you don't have that issue and the line stays green. I've had the same Daiwa Samurai Braid on my reels for the last 6 or 7 years and it's still green and performs flawlessly.
