Quietest Braid

Post by asianator99 » Wed Mar 22, 2017 4:39 am

I may be purchasing a rod with rec guides which I hear can be noisy especially with braid. Is there any braid that can if not eliminate the noise but decrease it? I've heard suffix 832 and pp super 8 slick are good options?
Thanks

The Sufix 832 is a a nice line, but isn't really silent. The quietest line I have used comes from a german producer is called Stroft GTP S. The line is really silky and smooth as (or smother than) a monofilament, but also very soft.

I would say this braided line would be the quietest in my experience, the second Daiwa Samurai.

Two factors:

The first is braids that are "slicker" will be more quiet than those that are not treated. 832 would be one of many that seem to have a sort of waxy feel to them.

The other factor is how tight the weave is, that is, the actual plaiting of the multiple strands comprising a braid. A good analogy here would be a saw blade and how fine its teeth are: the more teeth per unit of distance, the smoother the saw stroke. It'd be the same for braid passing through line guides. Here, the Sufix Nanobraid would be an example of a braid with a very tight, vertical weave. I use the 2 lbs. test and can't hear it at all on ultralight gear. Too small for most applications most would use braid for, but it is available up to 14 lbs. test. This one might be worth a shot!

I don't think there is a usdm braid quieter than Maxxima 8. Excellent braid. CRAZZY limp.

The quietest usdm non coated braid is either jerrybrown hollow core or fins 40g

Nanofil and gliss are silent.

SS8 is very quiet but is very soft and loses roundness quickly. Fine for spinning but I don't like it on casting reels. J-braid has been quiet and holds up well too.

daiwa j-braid x8 is very smooth and quiet... I switched from using suffix 832 to it.
