Post by Draethe84 » Sun Jul 03, 2016 3:35 pm

Hey guys I'm after a good quality supple mono in 6lb. for my second BFS spool. Thanks in advance.

SuperNatural runs thinner than most lines. A typical 6 lb. test nylon monofilament is .009+"; to get that in this line, you will have to go to the 8 lb. strength.

I have not fished this line in that strength, but have fished the 20 lb. on a baitcaster and have found it very limp yet able to deliver a good shallow-water hookset.

Supernatural, like most Japanese lines but totally unlike typical US lines, is labeled very close to its actual break strength, which is why Bronzeye pointed out the diameter difference. If you haven't used accurately labeled line, you'll find it fishes more like what domestic manufacturers label as 4#. For an excellent line that won't break the bank and is labeled like most domestic mono, it's hard to go wrong with Sufix Elite. McCoy's is another excellent option. This is in no way intended to suggest that Supernatural isn't excellent; I'm just mentioning other options I've had success with.

Sufix Seige and Elite aren't bad mono lines. If you can step up the test, grab a spool of 11lb Sunline Defier. You'll never look back. The 11lb Defier isn't that much thicker than typical 8lb mono. Very minimal.

So now is the hard decision, Sufix Elite or Sunline Super Natural! Dammnit I hate choosing between two good products.

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure SuperNatural has the higher tensile strength of the two. Either should be fine if you don't use "break their jaws" hooksets.

BTW, Sufix Siege is considerably stiffer than Elite.

All the lines mentioned are well worth trying. I'll also add pline floroclear. Some hate it, some love it. I found 8lb to be great for bfs.

Haven't used the 8lb Supernatural on a baitcaster, but I can vouch for it on a spinning reel. Very limp and very castable.

I have fished the 6# on spinning gear for crappie and bream and it's very good line. Should fit your needs.

I agree with Hogsticker on the Sufix Elite. I've used it from 4lb all they way up to 25 and have never had any issues with it.
