If you use that braid on a spinning tackle and you need a loooong cast - it is worth it. When I fished from the bank, and I wanted to reach schooling fish with topwater or 110 I been using braid like Varivas Seabass MaxPower, mostly in diameters 0.8,1,1,2 PE.
Since I switch to boat/kayak and baitcasters combos, I stopped using that expensive Japanese braid.

If you are looking for really useful comparative line reviews I would suggest starting here:

http://www.paulusjustfishing.com/4linereview.htm

He does an excellent job of demystifying lines and gives you actual line diameters that you can compare along with real breaking strain numbers. His comments about the "feel" of certain lines are spot on in my opinion. If he doesn't have the exact line you are asking about but has another from the same manufacturer you should be able to get some idea as to its quality.

Also I really do like the Tasline braids that I have tried. (From Austrailia not Japan if it really matters). They are sometimes difficult to find in stock.

Thanks guys, that really helps. In a nut shell, the more expensive stuff is aimed at spinning gear in order to get that little extra distance. I think I will stick to Samauri

They are also aimed at salt water fishing.

Good read by japantackle.com. I just purchased YGK X8, so I can give you some impression after I fished with it more.

Samurai really has been the best braid available since it came out.

Primarily jigging braids. If a tuna breaks me off at my main line, that'll be super expensive.

I haven't gotten a chance to really cast the YGK 8 strand braid, but I can already tell you that it is by far the nicest braid I have handled. Very light coat, ultra smooth and soft.
