Multi Technique All Purpose Rod & Reel
I'm setting up a all purpose (mult technique) rod & reel combo and I was wondering which type of line I should use. The rod will probably be a G. Loomis MBR 843C GLX with a Steez (average gear ratio). I'm thinking in the 10/12Lb area. The water is usually pretty clear with limited structure & weeds.
The usual recommendations are braid & mono for topwater and fluorocarbon for bottom contact. Should I be looking at a copolymer? What would everyone suggest for a multi purpose line?
Thanks in advance.

For a 'multi-purpose' line, I say yes. I'm sure others will feel the same. You'll know if it's time to try another option.

Sunline Defier Armilo great line for all purpose rods. Less stretch than most mono and casts well.

Re: Multi Technique All Purpose Rod & Reel
Unfortunately there is no such line I would consider all purpose. Not enough stretch, too much stretch, so forth and so on. Maybe if you can find a somewhat stiff co poly, but the few I've tried stretched quite a bit. If it were me I would run braid with a fluorocarbon leader, barring the rod isn't super duper fast. Better yet, the best thing you could do is get an extra spool for your reel if you can. Bam, problem solved - 2 lines 1 reel.

40lb braid (10lb diameter) with fluoro or mono leader as needed. Pretty universal.

8lb yozuri hybrid is my do everything line except frogs.
Re: Multi Technique All Purpose Rod & Reel
I also like hybrid, but i normally use 10 or 12 on casting gear. On spinning gear i use either 8 or 10lb trilene xl for almost everything, and have a spare spool with 20lb braid i usually use when night fishing or targeting stripers and hybrids
Re: Multi Technique All Purpose Rod & Reel
Don't complicate things with a leader on bait casting gear either use str8 braid or Str8 mono and you'll be fine. 12lb xl is great line

Re: Multi Technique All Purpose Rod & Reel
You can get away with 12 lb mono with most application
Re: Multi Technique All Purpose Rod & Reel
If your limited to just one rod and reel, use 30# braid. You can always add a flouro or mono leader given the situation. Plus braid last a long time so you'll save some money too, if that matters to you. Another option would be to buy an extra spool so you can switch out spools with different lines.
Re: Multi Technique All Purpose Rod & Reel
I would say 50-65lb Braid so that you could use if with leaders and use it leaderless for frogs and possibly jigs.

Toray Bawo SuperHard Polyamide Plus is another good choice as well though a little harder to find.
