By topwater I would have to break it down a bit further...
Frogs - Braid usually 40# or heavier
Small 1/4 oz poppers - 8-10# mono or copoly
Normal sized hardbaits from 3/8-3/4 oz get 12# mono.

I have to take a bit of responsibility, I was moving to get the net. Did I say she was a piggy? I would have reached down for her but the bait was not situated well. The bait had worked almost outside the mouth.
On the other hand. The MB IP79 worked perfectly. The drag was butter smooth. Retrieve was perfect, no hiccups. Piggy didn't make it to market but the considering I don't keep what I catch anyway, I got the fight, that's the best part.
Yes, I tell myself the same thing every time I loose a decent fish. BS.

I generally use mono or a co-poly in 12 or 15 pound test.

15# Big Game for hard baits and 50# Power Pro for frogs

For other topwater lures :
Braid + leader on spinning gear or monoline on casting gear.

Walking Hardbaits: 30# Braid to a 15-20# Monofilament Leader
