FX2 & SX1
FX2 & SX1
Hi
You think the Sunline FX2 in say #50 test could make a good all purpose line; jigs, spinnerbaits etc? I usually use a PP 30 lbs or something with a diameter just below 0.30 mm, and the FX2 #50 is rated at 0.29 mm.
It seems to be praised highly by everyone although maybe not the slickest line on the market! What do you think? I like the 8 carrier and extreme durability, but the new SX1 is appealing too although it seems to have a high diameter to reach the same strength as FX2. It seems impossible to reach a consensus on what line is the best and yet the FX2 seems to make an exception? Great for frogs; maybe applicable for other applications?
So basically; with regard to what applications does each line yield the most value?

Re: FX2 & SX1
Sunline braid is the roundest and most durable braid i've used. I used FX2 for 2 years and got a bunch of SX1 to try in 2013.
Re: FX2 & SX1
Being an 8 carrier the FX2 should remain the top-dog though? What do you think. I am inclined to purchase some of each, but I want the best one, and so we can discard that option! I only read about the diameter and wonder if that of 50 lbs FX2 is truly the equivalent of 30 lbs 'regular' braid.muskyhunter wrote:Sunline braid is the roundest and most durable braid i've used. Re: FX2 & SX1
I fish the fx2 since it came out and it is simply the strongest most durable braid i ever fish but i use this braid only for picthing and frog fishing.I use 50lb fx2 and it is pretty much the same diameter as 50lb spider wire .I dont think it is the best braid for fishing moving bait because it is pretty noisy. You probebly better checking for some Daiwa samurai braid (smoothest braid ever) for your moving lure.40lb samurai is the same diameter as 30lb spider wire.Maybe the pp super slick is a good option too for moving lure , i never try it but i check it at the store and it is very smooth.

Re: FX2 & SX1
Is the FX2 as abrasion resistance ( or more so) than Power Pro? PP has been my braid for years, but I have been wanting to try something new.
I use 65 lb PP for frogging, which has a diameter of .016 in (.41mm). 60 lb FX2 is .014 and 80 lb is .017, if the information I sourced is correct. I know Dean Rojas uses 80 lb. Does the 80 lb have 8 carriers like the 50 lb and 60 lb or only 4?
What's the difference between FX2 and PE braid?

FX2 is much rounder and more durable than PP. FX2 has 8 carrier for all.
SX1 is 4 carrier and rounder than most braid available.

Re: FX2 & SX1
Are you sure 80 lb FX2 is 8 carrier? The product information page does say that FX2 is 8 strands, but a TT member discovered that 80 lb has only 4. I asked to see if anything changes since then.cndbasshunter wrote:FX2 is much rounder and more durable than PP. FX2 has 8 carrier for all.

4 or 8 I'm not really concerned and will try it out. Too many good reviews to pass it up.

Re: FX2 & SX1
I recently picked up some FX2 in 50lb. to spool on one of Curados. I really like PP and Suffix so I am anxious to see how it compares.

Be interesting to see how it compares to Suffix.....bassbandit wrote:I recently picked up some FX2 in 50lb. to spool on one of Curados. I really like PP and Suffix so I am anxious to see how it compares.

Re: FX2 & SX1
What pound FX2 are you guys using for frog fishing in heavy vegetation? I've used 65lb Power Pro in the past so am torn between 60lb and 80lb FX2. I wish they made a 70lb FX2, which would be closer in diameter to 65lb Power Pro
Re: FX2 & SX1
FX2 diameter:
80 lbs is 0.431 mm (0.0170 inch)
60 lbs is 0.356 mm (0.0140 inch)
50 lbs is 0.312 mm (0.0123 inch)
I also asked Sunline about the 80 lbs being four stranded (was noted in some post on this forum), but they claim it is indeed an eight carrier line.

Re: FX2 & SX1
Is 60lb FX2 strong enough for fishing frogs in heavy vegetation? The reason I use 65lb Power Pro is because some of the top frog guys, like Bobby Barrack recommended it over 50lb Power Pro due to break offs with the 50lb. The lake I primarily fish gets some really heavy vegetation in the Summer. 60lb FX2 has a slightly smaller Diameter than 50lb Power Pro, which is why I'm unsure about it.
Re: FX2 & SX1
I won't go into why I don't like PP as there are lots of fans of this line...however my experience is that Sufix braided lines have better shock strength and resistance to fraying than PP products.Micropterus salmoides wrote:Is 60lb FX2 strong enough for fishing frogs in heavy vegetation? Have had nothing but good luck with FX2 jig fishing and frog fishing in heavy cover. Good shock strength and very easy to cast.
