Monofilament With Least Amount of Memory

Post by bob75 » Tue Nov 22, 2011 5:02 am

I throw 4" soft stick baits on a baitcasting reel using 10# test Trilene XL. The lure especially when wacky rigged falls so slowly that their are coils in the line.

Noted a post on Trilene XL Armor Coated which us toted as being limper and may try it, although I'm put off by the price per yard.

Are there other lines out there that are limper than Trilene XL?

Sunline Super Natural has been excellent for me.

You may want to consider a FC line for weightless wacky rigs.

x2 on both statements. You cant beat sunline for the price.

flouro sinks unlike mono...its ideal for stick baits.

I've yet to try anything with less memory than XL. Not necessarily the toughest, but I like it for the castability. I still use it on my spinning reels.

I have found the following lines to have low memory and work well on spinning gear:
P Line CX Premium
Yozuri Ultra Soft
Excalibur Silver thread
I would not go much over 10 or maximum 12 lbs though.
My personal preference for fishing weightless Senkos on spinning gear is 10 or 14 lb Fireline with a 10 lb Flouro leader. You will find that this will give you the least line issues with very light lures.

Thanks for the replies.

I would prefer to fish 4" soft stick baits with a spinning rod but even a 2# bass causes extreme pain in my forearm so have to use a baitcasting rig.

I would stay away from Sunline mono....
Have had nothing but problems with 12 and 14. Disappointing, read quite a few good reviews here.

Agreed...if you are using Super Natural or Machine Gun Cast...you need to up the line rating by quite a bit and fish the diameter. Otherwise you will break off this line and/or fray it more than other lines of similar lb ratings. This said, the Sunline Defier ROCKS!

Suffix elite camo.
Their G2 winding eliminates memory. There's a review here on TT.
It's super tough, so you may consider downsizing to 8lb. 12lb didn't break until 20lbs of pressure in the TT test.
Sunline defier is good stuff too. Suffix is the best mono ever imo.
