Fireline Crystal + FC Leader?
I just got a new spinning reel and was hoping to spool it with braid and use an FC leader. I love the way Fireline Micro-Dyneema Superline handles on spinning reels, but my concern is that because this line isn't "round" in shape, it will be more prone to slip out of the knot used to tie on the FC leader. Just wanted to see if anyone had experience with this.

I've been fishing 10# Fireline tied to 8# InvisX for about a year with no issues. Your line to leader knot does matter though. Try the Modified Albright / Alberto knot:

I haven't broken a line to leader knot that I recall since I started using it.

Practice your line joining knots until you become very good at tying them.

Thanks for the info. I was going to use the Albright Special knot from the TT video with Dean from HisTackle.TxBuddha wrote:I've been fishing 10# Fireline tied to 8# InvisX for about a year with no issues. Your line to leader knot does matter though. Try the Modified Albright / Alberto knot:

I never had a problem with tying Fireline direct to a hook.
The fish in the pic is a 32"-36" Tiger Musky, the tiny bait you see is a 4" MB Ya-Mamba worm. It was 20 lb Fireline.

Although I've had my share of bite-offs using Fireline, the above pic brings back similar memories. I've been fortunate enough to have landed four 40"+ muskies on 6lb to 10lb Fireline over the years... all hooked inside the lip, all released. I used most of the spool of line fighting them.
As to the line splice... there is no reason to cut the Fireline tag closer than 1/2". A longer tag on the braid side provides an extra measure of confidence in the knot.

I've had 20# Fireline snipped like less than 4# mono by pikes at the moment of the bite. It only takes the line to just end up caught directly in between a few sharp serrated teeth.
