2024 Releases/Rumors
Re: 2024 Releases/Rumors
Why did it took them almost half a decade to add dc brakes into a 2020 reel? Its not like they had to build a brand new frame and a digital braking system.

Give me new Antares, not poor man Antares DC
Re: 2024 Releases/Rumors
I could be wrong on this, but this new Metanium DC looks like it's a bit wider than the non-DC version. Only makes sense since the 20 Metanium spool is not wide enough to fit DC module unless they've designed a new and much smaller DC module this time.
And I hope it's not bluetooth enabled.
Re: 2024 Releases/Rumors
I love Daiwa but I would rather put a AA battery into a reel every trip than try and figure out their latest DC system.tdm wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 8:45 pmI could be wrong on this, but this new Metanium DC looks like it's a bit wider than the non-DC version. Re: 2024 Releases/Rumors
Usually frame and especially side plate of a DC reel is bigger and wider than the non DC counterpart bc that dc unit sticks out quite a bit. This combined with the new metaniums core solid body design means you’re super limited on space as the engineer designing this thing. There was a noticeable size difference in the 2013/2016 metanium vs the 2015 metanium dc and the 2019 antares vs the 21 dc.
Pic show size diff of slx vs slx dc for reference
also shimano as a company needs to see if there’s enough demand to justify the cost of making em. For example lot of guys in the west coast have been begging them to drop another trinidad dc or a tranx 500 dc for years but that ain’t gonna happen bc they decided the returns that would bring isn’t worth the investment to produce them at the current demand.

Re: 2024 Releases/Rumors
From the higher end, a metanium with dc brakes is as safe as it gets. The Metanium name is as recognizable as they come, so they must've known that it'll sell. And as for the slx, are they in the same size? I don't recall seeing a big difference between my met dc and a met2013/2016, but i haven't had a standard metanium in some time, so i might be wrong there.HellaBread wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 9:39 pmUsually frame and especially side plate of a DC reel is bigger and wider than the non DC counterpart bc that dc unit sticks out quite a bit. Re: 2024 Releases/Rumors
Maybe they figured out to slim the DC down:
The SLX XT DC builds on the seemingly same frame as the Curado I from 2014 but they narrowed down the whole frame including the spool, from 200 to a 70 size. And the side plate looks quite flat also. So maybeeeee… this is the start of compact DC era?

Re: 2024 Releases/Rumors
Yup same size, there are a few dc reels that actually match their non dc models in size but most of them are bigger in some way. Other examples, Curado/Scorpion 150/200 DC has a noticeably wider side plate compared to the Curado K/Scorpion. Probably the most extreme case of this is the 21 antares dc vs the 19 antares a. The dc system is just kinda inherently bulky and heavy. As for the metanium dc being an easy sell, maybe? Reason why i’m saying maybe is if you look at shimanos catalog it’s already flooded with DC models and the metanium doesn’t really fit anywhere price or capability wise with the current catalog. Assuming it’s sold at the same msrp as the 2015 it’s way too close in price to the conquest dc / 21 antares while the slx dc xt will cover mostly the same applications and isn’t made of saltwater sensitive matierials for less money and only a 0.2-0.3 ish oz weight increase.

Re: 2024 Releases/Rumors
That would be fantastic if this new Metanium DC has a smaller footprint than the 15 version.

Re: 2024 Releases/Rumors
70 yards of 14# mono for the new Met DC--doesn't look like this is going to be my new jig reel with 20# fluorocarbon.
This will probably make a sick squarebill reel though!
