23 Shimano 100 “ long cast”

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

23 Shimano 100 “ long cast”

I have quite a few 2020 Metaniums and I like them very much. Shimano is billing the new 100 version as a “long cast”. Would this reel cast further than the 2020 model with 30 lb braid?

I think it just has the USDM deeper spool. Brakes and everything else are the same I am pretty sure. You have the JDM version (somewhat shallow), the actual shallow JDM version (aluminum gears and true shallow spool), then the newest 2023 version which has the standard USDM spool that is considered deep for Japanese standards.
