What are the best spin reels to pair with the nrx+ 902? Would appreciate some options ranging from 200 and up. Thank you

Looking for best balance and casting I can get as well as the best value and bang for the buck. Vanford may be a good starting point since its also light. So what am I gaining as I go into higher end reels?

Also should 2500 size pair well with 902+?

Daiwa Certate. Daiwa LUVIAS Airity. Shimano Vanquish.

Picture with my NRX 902 (not +) and Certate 2500. The plus is a little better balanced and will be at the end of the cork.

My Certates feel more refined than both my FJ and FK Stellas. The drag is smoother too. At half the price of a new Stella...

Shimano does better in salt, the only reason I have a few in my rotation.

I am partial to the Certates. The performance is on par with the Stella and they can be had for under $300 currently. Aesthetically, the Certate should also pair quite nicely with the NRX.

The Luvias is also an excellent option. I picked up one recently to try for UL fishing and I liked it so much, I picked up 2 more for bass fishing. One will be replacing an older, heavier Stella. The new Luvias are just crazy light. SLP spare spools for the Luvias can also be had for a bargain, under 40 bucks, so it's nice to have that option without some absurd price like so many other reels.

I have never fished a Vanford or Vanquish.

I, too, have Shimano in my saltwater gear. Their reels are something special in that environment. I have Certate SW reels for my surf sets and a Van Staal for light beach work. No matter your brand loyalty, both Shimano and Daiwa makes some pretty spectacular reels…

I, too, have Shimano in my saltwater gear. Their reels are something special in that environment.

I've had a Certate LT and Ballistic LT go coffee grinder on me in the salt - this is light surf duties zero dunking or sand. I suspect the water in the surf zone is laden with sediments, including metals, and the Magseal attracts those particles. It's a magnet after all. I've seen several magsealed Daiwa spinners go bad in saltwater usage around me.

Meanwhile all the Shimanos with X Protect (or w/e they call that labyrinth system to keep water out) just keep on working in the same environment. From Ultegras to Stradics to Vanford/TP/Vanquish and Stellas...they just plain work. Not as smooth in the retrieve as Certate/Airity/Exist, not as smooth in the drag department either (even the new Stella FK's revamped drag is inferior when it comes to zero startup vs Daiwa)...but as far as I'm concerned Daiwa spinners are freshwater only for me.
