The 8 gear lefty comes in stock pretty regularly. I'm waiting on the 7 gear myself.

So...how badass is this Zillion HD versus the standard? Also, how does it compare to the OG Zillion Type R and 2019 Morethan for heavier power techs like frogging, jigs, big spinnerbaits, power fishing chatter and 1 oz cranks and lipless?

I sold all of my HDs and went back to the “Standard”. There was nothing wrong with them BUT they are I mistook “heavy duty” for heavy fish. In actuality, it’s more for heavy baits, as in over 1/2 oz. The standard is just Jim Dandy for big bass. Not the most expensive tackle lesson I ever had to learn but I could have done without it.

I think the HD looks better than the standard but I prefer the spool and breaking profile of the standard. I’ll keep the one HD I have but will continue to buy regular zillions. As far as comparing new standards or HDs to the old Zillions, they’re just different. I prefer the new models much more but will continue to use my old Zillion when I need a heavy reel to balance out a combo.

The Zillion HD spool launches 1/2+ well, and very controlled, I was on brake setting #4...casts as far as my Zillion Type R, but literally didn't have to use any thumb at the beginning of the cast, and minimally of at all, at the end of the cast. And it required much less casting force...also, this spool also holds a lot of line.

I'm still bit stupefied by how perfect this combo is for 1/2-1 oz topwaters.

This spool casts as far as my tuned Scorpion 1000XT with HH BFS bearings, tossing a Giant Dog X. It's not as fast RPM wise, but much more controlled. This spool casts as far and maybe a bit farther than the OG TD-ITO type R spool, but with excellent control. I'm running brakes on 4 and only had one fluff up all day casting too hard against a strong crosswind.

Lastly, the hood has proven to feel solid even though it is no longer a single piece of integrated aluminum with the frame, the engine cover looks much better than the standard current Zillion and the handle nut cover/retainer is also nicer, not to mention the aesthetically much more attractive black "motif"

I can’t stop buying these things. And tack on new bearings and RCS knobs each time, this is adding up.

Damn John...SCHUUUUWWIIIING dude!

BTW, I combined my 2022 Zillion HD with a Jackall Poison Adrena 7'0" Swimbait rod (rated 3/8-2 oz) + 14lb Sufix Siege.

The reel is too new for me to have any experience with this, also I fished it after applying sunscreen lotion to my hands over two fishing trips and no paint issues.
