22 Zillion TW HD

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

I see... it seems like the paint is similar to the steezes when fished in salt... it starts bubbling...

I have read about some Gen I Steez A that had this happening with use in SW, however the paint on the 2019 Morethan PE SV is thick and durable in my hands, so it's probably not all Steez reels.

The paint started bubbling next to the spool. I am at a breaking point where I might give up on Daiwa reels just because of the paint… even though the performance is awesome. Never had an issue with any shimano reels paint bubbling, even the magnesium reels.

While I agree about Shimano paint generally being tougher, especially in SW...that appears to be a Zillion HD in your pic?

Ummm....that's kinda what I just stated...I have the exact same reel LH in XH gear.

Daiwa's weak point has always been paint, although their anodizing is excellent. Shimano had some examples of weak paint as well with the Chronarch MG50 and MG/SF reels, but it's few and far between to have weak paint on Shimanos in general.

Anyone have a source for the spool? I have a bunch of 21 Zillion Gs that I'd like more line capacity on.

Don't have any issues on my 21 zil, but Daiwa paint is certainly trash. But i am wondering, are Shimano reels anodized under the paint? Because daiwa does anodize them (maybe not all, but certainly my steez tw and the 21 zil).

Trying to decide the HD and regular zillion to pair with my 610 rebellion MHRB. Currently my all arounder, but will eventually be relegated to single hook moving bait duties. The HD pairs better aesthetically but the regular one is offered in lower gear ratios that would be more enjoyable to fish with moving baits. Anyone can chime in about the differences betweeen them and help me decide?

The HD and (USDM) Zillion have a brass main gear vs standard JDM Zillion has an aluminum main gear. The HD is available in 7.1 or 8.1 ratio. The standard Zillion is available in 5.5(JDM only), 6.3, 7.1 and 8.1. The HD is a Mag-Z boost spool and is a little deeper. The standard Zillion spool is SV boost. Standard Zillion is good with 1/4 oz up to 1 oz or so. The HD spool is good with 3/8 up to 3 oz.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.
