2022 Daiwa Silver Creek Air TW Stream Custom

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Does anyone want to sell their Gekka spool? So they can buy a Roro or Silver creek spool.

I think I read somewhere that a standard 28mm spool didnt work in the Gekkabijin model, that it didnt reel smoothly, iirc. Could be wrong, but if that's the case, it likely wont work swapping it the other way, into a standard Steez AIR or Alphas AIR reel.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Comparison GekkaBijin vs. Silver Creek:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqaeLaOLK1I
Spools should be interchangeable.

As well to Alphas Air too.

My GekkaBijin reels line evenly to Standard width Roro spool. I think level wind travel is similar in every current Air Alphas.

If needing a GekkaBijin spool, why not to buy GekkaBijin and sell the reel without spool. I have seen some people doing that on Ebay.

All Alphas AIR TW / Gekkabijin spools fit. I did test fitting.

Reel looks impressive in person!!! Can't wait to get it out fishing and compare it to other BFS reels.

Fixed inductor. Spool weights are pretty much the same with the Alphas AIR TW, Gekkabijin AIR TW and Silver Creek AIR TW.

Me too. I like being able to turn the handle with my finger using the drag star when grabbing my net.

That's a good looking reel!

Might that drag star be same as SLP Works SCL MC?

UPDATE

Spools are compatible with Gekkabijin AIR TW and Alphas AIR TW, as well as Roro AX24.

I will have to test if the gears are the same as the Gekkabijin (assuming so). Also am interested to see the the 8.6 gears from the Alphas AIR TW are compatible.

Casting will take place soon. I will break it into two videos, casting a variety of lures from 1-8gr and then doing a real world fishing test.

I will post info on TT first because, well, this is where my BFS journey started. Any questions you have regarding the Silver Creek, let me know and I will find the info!!

Thank you Hobie for that super clear review :) I promoted that video to Finnish fishing site as usual :)

For gears: this is purely a guess, but I think they have changed design of teeths of gears. Maybe a little different teeth dimension (thinner ?) and contact surface might be changed a little bit.

What is the weight of this spool? Compared to the regular Alphas AIR TW or even the old non T-wing Alphas Air

The Alphas AIR TW, Gekkabijin and Silver Creek spools all weigh about the same. Mid 8gr.

Nice, I know some of the brand name aftermarket spools weigh less, and I think some of the Aliexpress spools weigh less.. That being said, I would love to see how that makes a difference and really compares to the stock options. If sheer weight means the most or precision tooling and a better braking system makes the difference...

Only aftermarket spools I have tried in the 28mm platform have been Roro. Definitely wakes the reels up (Gekkabijin and Alphas) for short range casting and casting lighter lures. Sheer distance with finesse bass lures, I will take the stock spools. Roro thickened model is decent with that stuff but, not worth the upgrade if you fish Shakeyheads and all that.
