Hand engraving.

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Hand engraving.

Post by Slazmo » Sat Nov 14, 2020 4:32 pm

Stumbled across this little gem this morning half bleary eyed and drowsy....

But once I warmed up and had a coffee I just couldn't get past the detail and honest workmanship of it. It actually reminds me of the old Shimano Bantam reels of old where they had engraved side plates with gold inlays etc - classy reels of their time.

Not sure if the owner is a little crazy, brave or bit of both but just had to show this reel - wish I had high res pics.

I saw this on Instagram this morning, and had the same impression. It reminds me a lot of the engraved receivers on older shotguns. Really curious as to the process to get there, thanks for sharing!

There's a Japanese guy i saw on yoututbe that does it for living. Saw his work on a conquest, and it sure looked sweet.

Being a Magnesium based reel for one opening up the protective layers and exposure to Oxygen and moisture presents its own issue. Unless done in a lox oxygen / moisture controlled environment that would be the safest way - and then covering it with a clear yet durable layer to keep further exposure out of the Magnesium otherwise it would go pear shaped very quickly!

Would love to see the CQ too.

This is the side plate of my old Bantam...

That's awesome engraving. My dad did a lot of cowboy action shooting and most of his guns had similar engraving.
