Reel With clicker

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Daiwa Sealines are pretty much the standard used on charters that dot the Great Lakes and they come with a clicker. They can be had with or without line counters as well.

the only other options is to go for the smaller of the offshore reels like Shimano Tekota or the Daiwa Saltist which would be similar in size to the old ABU 7000. Have used luna 300 before but the clicker in those is very quiet. Calcutta B 400 size had a clicker as well as 300 and 400 size conquests in the older models.

I wish Abu still made the 6600 and 7000 in a lever drag. So nice having 3 settings. Free spool, bite, and fight. The drag setup is far different than your usual Ambassadeur. There is one drag washer on the drive shaft and a massive washer that goes on the side of the spool. That drag washer is nearly the same diameter as the spool itself.

Tekota 500A is a small package with a levelwind, but will pack a punch with 11kgs of drag.

I bought one back in June for light live baiting - but will take a heck of a lot more than I will ever put it to.

If you want a reel for trolling get a line counter in the right size capacity. Either a tekota 300LC or 500LC series depending on line capacity. Knowing the amount of line out will help you dial in the depth of the baits your using. Max depth for most diving baits is achieved with around 270 feet out from the boat.
