MGL
MGL
For those who have used reels with MGL spools and the version before the MGL is there that much difference? Like, say the Alde without MGL and the current model with MGL. Is it more advertising or are we really gaining anything? I have a few older Shimanos that I would think about upgrading to the current MGL models if I could convince myself I was gaining much.
Re: MGL
Especially for the Aldebaran it’s a huge step up. Using 8lb braid I was down at 1 brake and 1 on the dial and still wasn’t close to backlash, which means to me there’s still potential casting distance withheld. Now with the mgl I‘m at 2 brakes and happy. Also the MGL spool starts up quicker.
Can’t wait to feel the difference for the Curado 70 platform.

Re: MGL
It's a shortened form of their word "Magnumlite".
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Re: MGL
Which is A7075 aluminum in spools - most will remember the first plastic silver Chronarch Ci4 with the red Aspro spool.
Or if you go back in time more of a production theory or recently a type of Ci4 / Ci4+ material.
It's quiet confusing to think about it all...

Re: MGL
Well fishing the Chronarch CI4 and MGL version side by side there was very little gains if any noticed for me. The spools are only 1 gram difference in weight with same line capacity. So even with 7% lighter MGL spool and newer svs brake system the older CI4 holds it own. I didnt throw light stuff lightest around .344oz Pond Magic spinnerbait up to 3/4oz lipless crank and couldnt see much difference. I didnt see much difference between Chronarch MGL and Curado 70 so I returned the MGL bought another 70 that was on sale at the time.

Re: MGL
The only way I could get my Metanium 13 to cast as good as my Metanium MGL was to purchase a shallow
spool, it did work
I haven't noticed a big difference in casting the Metanium 20 compared to the Metanium MGL (18?)
What I have noticed is the compact feel and the smoothness, I had to check my drag to see if it was engaged last
time I went fishing LOL.
