New Curado 70 mgl K

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Had one on backorder, it shipped earlier than I expected. Looks good on a GLX. (High-res links below each photo.)

Haven't spooled or fished it yet, but hoping to do so this week. Out of the box, turning the handle doesn't feel as smooth as I expect from a factory reel. Might need to reoil and regrease it right away...

Anyone know if there will be a new scorpion 70 available in Japan? Shimano japan website still doesn't show it, which is rare.

I think it's a beautiful reel. How's it feel on the rod?

I made a few casts on it today. With the GLX it's a nice combo; the colors work well together, and the green accents on the reel match green braided line very well, too. Easily palmable. I was throwing a light t-rig on it with a combined bait weight of 0.35oz (1/8 bullet weight + curly tail), and I was happy with the casting distance that I got. I feel that my Daiwa BFS reel would gotten me a bit more distance, but it's not in the same price class. Turning the handle and reeling feels smooth and has a connected feel to it. Some people like that, but it's not as "you can't even feel the gears at all!" like some of my other reels (which I like). Not sure how it compares to the old Curado 70 because I haven't used those since spring...

Overall it feels like a very solid reel. It's not the lightest, though, at 11.75oz (on a 7 foot GLX) the combo is actually remarkably heavy when compared to some of the other high-end combos that I have (I have a Phenix K2 + Daiwa SV Light and a Zbone + MGXtreme that both weigh 9oz, and it's a noticeable difference).

Long time shimano fan here and haven't posted on here for years... but after seeing this new curado, I had to come back on. All i can say is its an amazing time to be a shimano fan!

So impressed with the line up the last few years. Almost making me want to sell my green machine 51e. I don't know if I can part with it though, they are so rare nowadays

Agree 100% but find it hard to spend 230$ on the 70 mgl when you can get a 20 metainum from japan for 70$ more

Free shipping from asian fishing portal. I got a antares 70 for just over 400$ a couple months ago. The 20 met is 289$ now but they're out of stock on hg and xg models. Im sure the price will drop on the curado 70 mgl in a few months on sites like ebay

comparing this with the TATULA SV TW103 or the TATULA ELITE, which handles lure around 5g-14g better?

+2. Still havent found a better Shimano all around than the E series reels. Cu50E and CI200E are never going anywhere. I have enough parts to rebuild these 2 reels 3x over.
