New Curado 70 mgl K

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

I actually like the look of the reel, just not the price. For another $60 I can order the Metanium from Japan and know 100% that it will outperform the 70. For essentially the same price, I can get a Bantam. They may be a hair larger, but they're not big reels at all. If this reel was $179, it'd be a winner. Not enough return on your investment at $230.
Does anyone pay for retail for reels on here? It will be a $180 reel on the street, so $120 difference from the Met.
Hopefully that's the case. It's hard to find the DC for even 10% off retail, unless there's a sale. Seems Shimano reels don't get discounted as much as Daiwa, Lews, etc.

They used to. A lot of the sales dried up after the covid on JDM gear. I'm curious to see what Plat's Summer Sale looks like this year. Last year there was heavily discounted newer releases.

I buy all gear for at least 20% off. I don't think I've ever paid full retail for anything.

Same. 10% off gift cards is another good way of saving

It appears the reel is actually dark green, instead of charcoal like it appeared in the 45 degree angle picture.

To me it looks like the same color as the Curado K 200

It does look green on Shimano’s site, but everywhere else shows it looking the same as the 200 :-k

I hope no one took my earlier comments about Shimano rehashing their reels wrongly. I think the Curado 70 is a good reel, and the addition of the MGL spool and MM brass gearing should make a good reel even better. I'm not a Shimano guy, but they do make some solid reels. FWIW, I also harbor a secret grudge against Daiwa for their "all-in" with Tatula platform. I am gonna buy a few of their older offerings as I find them in good condition. Aside from the Steez SV TW, I dont find any of their current offerings appealing. I do own one Tatula TTU 100HS, and I think it's a good reel. I just don't want every option from them to be on the same identical frame. That's just boring to me.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

I am sure there will be a new Scorpion 70 MGL coming. Hopefully it will be red like the Scorpion MGL 200.

Well, if it is green, that changes things a little bit. Never really found a reel that matches a green NRX.

The Curado DC looks pretty boss on the green NRXs. I actually moved my Metanium DC off my green 893 to a different stick because the Curado DC looks so nice on it.

The pictures on the TT preview are the same as Shimano's website which shows a green hue to the reel in most of them, but the final photo looks like a Curado DC with a dark green drag star, which I suspect is how it actually looks, and the rest of the photos just have a white balance issue.

Shimano has all kinds of hue and brightness problems when they process the pictures. I remember the 16 Aldebaran BFS looking black in the first released pictures - not grey, the Aldebaran MGL doesn’t look closely as blue as in daylight and the Scorpion BFS not as brown. Who knows what’s the actual color of the new Curado :D

Finally took a look at the actual reel, and my first reaction was very unenthusiastic. Green is hard to match well with rods - sure, it's the primary complimentary color to red (i.e. Zodias), but it's still a big mismatch. And there aren't many green rods that match directly. Powell Max 3D comes to mind, but I don't have many of those. Then it's also 0.4oz heavier than the Curado 70s I already own, and costs more? Boo. But...

Thinking about this a bit more, I can see myself putting one of these on a GLX 843. The colors should be a good match, it's the right-size reel for that rod, and the MGL spool should help pitching weightless senkos or bombing a light t-rig. So maybe I'm talking myself into one of these, after all :-k
