Do level wind bearings really make a difference in overall smoothness?

Negligible amount. Just ends up being one more thing to maintain.
Re: levelwind
Seems like it makes more of a difference in some reels than others. I usually upgrade the bushing to a bearing when I am doing my periodic or annual maintenance, not a big deal once you're that far into it anyway.

Og zillion I don't think it makes a difference, the tatulas it improves a good bit in my opinion, it's cheap, 10 trb abec5 bearings are $16, it's a cheap upgrade.

Put a bush on a shaft and a bearings and wobble them side to side.
Keept things static more than bushings - that's why I ultimately swap them out.

They help in the Abu round reels, had a few of the 4600 and 5600 super tuned with bearings on both ends. Never tried with a low pro reel.
