Fastest gear set for the Pixy and Alphas

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Fastest gear set for the Pixy and Alphas

Post by SSS » Sat Jun 20, 2020 2:06 pm

Looking to upgrade my 5.8:1 gear set from an alphas ito and an airy red. I know there is a 6.8:1 gear set from the PX68/SPR, but i'd prefer something faster. Alphas SV has a 7.2:1 set, but are they compatible with the older alphas/pixy models?

The gear sets will retrofit, I’m running the 7’a in an Amber Pixy with no issues

You have the Alphas SV gears? Do you remember if they're made out of aluminium or brass?

They’re brass, I remember being pleased with that fact when I got them in from TTT. Very smooth and sped the reel way up.

I have a 7.2:1 gear set in an Airy Red. Plus Ian did a few other things to it.

Any idea how much weight the reel gained by using brass?

0.4 oz.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.
