Re: Do you like ABU reels?
Yes, only their round offerings and only before the Pure Fishing takeover.
I've got a few other 1500C & 2500C in storage. Wish I could get them tuned by some of these Japanese blokes I have on my IG...

Yes, I like ABU reels. They need to get their sh$t together and do another 1500C/2500C production run; it's been over a decade since the last one.

Re: Do you like ABU reels?
You know they only do them every 20 or 25 years or so to keep the exclusivity to them.
Re: Do you like ABU reels?
I love the Ambassadeurs, but not too fond of the low profile offerings. For that, I reach for Daiwa or Shimano.
Here's my latest creation, did a custom 4500 since Abu doesn't make them anymore. I like my Ambassadeurs without a thumb bar and prefer the push button. This one uses a spool from a newer production 4600 C3, side plates/crank/star wheel from a red 5000, chromed brass frame, Carbontex drag, single bearing level wind, polished all contact points, and added Bakelite brake blocks like those on the CS Rocket reels. I pier fish Great Lakes salmon and steelhead with it.

I cannot fathom why 1000/2000 sized reels are not part of their lineup. So many people looking for those reels.
Re: Do you like ABU reels?
IMO their low profile offerings are much better than their reputation (in the US). I have many top of the line Daiwa and Shimano reels and I still find that the MGXtreme 2 and similar high-end ABUs perform absolutely great...

An Abu Ambadsadeur Ultra Mag XL 2. Just picked it up randomly one day, quiet interesting a reel however. Keeps a lot of the old world charm with a flair of new age built in. It's that transition between round and low profile without the loss of their originality.Revofisher wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 9:33 amnice collection of round reels Slazmo. what is the one on the far right?

I do enjoy mine as well, the original one is great with its narrower frame, all I miss from them is instant antireverse.Slazmo wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 1:38 pmAn Abu Ambadsadeur Ultra Mag XL 2. Re: Do you like ABU reels?
I have been pleasantly surprised by ABU reels lately.
Got a bargain on an ABU Revo ALC-IB7-L on Amazon Japan for 130 USD (175 USD incl. shipping and pre-paid import charge).
The reel is so versatile out of the box - I use it for both inshore fishing with 1 oz lures and trout fishing in small streams with 1/8 oz lures. Longcasting, good line capacity and virtually no backlashes.
Did not think much of their low profile reels before this, but I have been impressed!
