Show off your OG Zillion

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

This is “The Sleeper”. It started out as my first OG 6.3 Zillion when they were introduced. It has four handle bearings, a level wind bearing, RCS handle, Carbontex, Slp Super High Grip knobs, a Type-R star, and ZR spool bearings, like all of my dozen or so in this platform. I also took off the anodizing on the bumpers to make it look more simple. The spacers allowed for a Steez SV 103 spool. I have so many bling parts that I mix between my fleet that I often can’t remember what reel has what parts. This reel is more inline with what I like my custom rods to look like.

I like that a lot. A sort of polished matte look. On the other side of the spectrum compared to the obnoxious colors on my coastal, lol. I'd add one thing to it though, a thumb bar from a TDX. It's got that same matte aluminum look.

I'm in the process of making a bunch of spacers on the lathe; how do you like the SV spools in the OG's? I imagine pretty similar all around to a SV 103 reels' use of those spools.

Looks good so far. Maybe just an IP line guide for the win

Glad to see this. I've had a request or two (from at least a couple years ago), but just can't get to them. I feel real bad about that. We've been short handed (for 2 years) and I program 25 lathes plus help set up. Only guy setting up 3 of the lathes. I have some Teflon bar ends and would to love run off a few to see if the material would work because I could probably get 50-60 sets out of the bar ends I have. PVC works good.

I've got colorful OG's also! :D The SV spools seem to fish the same in the OG. Both the Steez SV and SV103 spools like the 3-4 setting on the mag dial. This is the same way that the SV spools fish in their original platforms. I got the spacers a long time ago, but I have so many reels that I didn't even put them in until a few days ago. I don't have much time with these spools in the OG, but I think it basically turns them into an SV103 if you also put on a Type-R star. The SV103 is near perfect. There are three in my fleet. I would have bought a whole bunch more if I didn't already have so many of the earlier versions of the platform.

Yes, I would love to have a bunch of those because it would be a big improvement, but $40 is way overpriced.

I still have the program you sent me for the CNC lathe but the guy who ran it doesn't work here anymore so I'm making them the old fashioned manual way. A little bit of trial and error so far but I've about got them dialed in. I'm also making some 33mm to 31mm sets for alphas to pixy. I'm using PVC.

I picked up my first SV103 late last year and just finished building one from a Zillion so I have very little fishing time with them but I agree, damn near perfect.

My two favorite OG Zillion framed reels. One is an IP79 stunning red LTD. I’m not sure how many were really made but I heard it was around 20 of them, but I can’t confirm. I threw a 100mm MB carbon handle, stock knobs, carbontex drag washers, YT fusion bearings, and it rides the MB Evoluzion Diablo Type L rod. The other is my J Dream 7.9. It started its life as a 5.3 model, but I changed the gears and side plate to 7.9 specs. I added carbontex drag washers, ZPI bearings, SLP 95 carbon handle with silver SLP knobs, and it rides around on my B70h Luxxe Oltre.

Thanks Man! Just trying to stay sane. I also have a set of 36-34mm spacers I got from a member here a little while back. I believe he made them out of delrin and they work very well.

Welcome to my world. 11 SV103s (most are still NIB because I love them so much and want backups) and at least another 20 in the TDZ/OG Zillion frame. I find myself coming back to it all the time. New stuff just doesn't do it for me at this point.

I was trying to pull the trigger on an IP or J-Dream in 7.9, but then the SV103XS came out. My reels get beat up on the deck running the big Western waters that I fish. I would definitely have a cover on that LTD at all times. :D

I definitely keep all my reels covered when not in use. The SV103 is a must. Since I’m bored on lockdown right now here’s a pic of mine. It’s a half breed zillion anyways. Most have seen it already but whatever.
