Gear Question

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

anyone running the 8.0:1 gears in a D7 or the 7.7:1in the 50E?

How are they holding up?

I had a Scorpion 1000xt with the Brenius 7:7 gears I sold a few months ago. It was smooth but I only used it for bottom contact apps.

I have 2 Exscence DC 8:1 reels. Both smooth and solid after 4 plus years. They get used for everything. Frogs, bigger jigs, topwater like whopper ploppers and chatterbaits and buzz baits. No problems at all

Do you feel any issues with torque?

No. But then again I dont use heavy baits with my 50E, as that wasnt its designed purposes. But, I have no issues with 1/4oz weight and a plastic bait swimming/buzzing. I use more of a UV Speed worm type bait with it, or even lighter stuff when I throw in the Yumeya spool.

I put a lot of use on my Alde/7.7:1 combos, and they are as good as it gets in my hands. Super smooth, plenty of power, great durability. Throw topwater, bigger jerkbaits and jigs quite a bit, but love that setup for throwing chatterbaits. Normally throwing 1/2oz with a mix of burning and stop and go and they have held up perfectly catching reds and bass in thick grass.
