Does anybody have any experience with this reel? I understand it's designed for light baits/microjigging but it also states it has "high cranking power". I just recently acquired a Zodias 76-MHG for mid-depth/deep cranking and have since been looking for a reel for it. I'm leaning toward the Bantam MGL PG but this reel caught my eye and I found it for around half the price of the Bantam.

The engetsu bb is on the casitas frame. Not a bad reel but not in the same league as the bantam.

The regular (non bb model) engetsu 100pg is a curado 70 with micro module 5.8 gears and clicking drag with monster 105mm handle. Very nice reel but a bit heavy for a curado 70 sized reel and only about 50 bucks cheaper than the bantam. I like the form factor of engetsu over the bantam but the bantam still feels nicer and more refined.

I had the bb hg and the shallow spool was a great caster but i felt like the frame had too much flex

I'm on the exact same quest you are, if you find a good match for your Zodias please post your findings!

The Scorpion 70 based Engetsu and regular Scorpion 70 match the Zodias perfectly. Same goes for the old Tatula Type R

Flex is no good when you're cranking- thanks for the info!

Yes they match in color but I need something to perform- I don't want to get worn out if I'm throwing a crankbait all day.

Mine is a 5.8:1. Micro mod gears too.

Have you tried throwing any resistance baits with it? Or baits over 1/2 oz? Upon reading it looks like it was designed for micro-jigging so I'm worried about throwing mid-depth crankbaits with high resistance and generally weigh in at 1/2oz or 5/8 oz. It seems like the Stile is more fit for the job.

I have not but I have no reason to believe it wouldn't be great at it. The reel is made for vertical jigging for snapper and should have a ton of cranking power. The spool is shallow and meant to be used with braid. It is actually a heavier spool than a Scorpion 70. If I were to use mine for cranks I would probably pick up a Scorpion 70 spool for more capacity.

I’ve used my Stile SS PG for cranking quite a bit, and it seems very similar. Plenty of cranking power in a small package, but not much line capacity so braid is a must. Braking is simple finesse style VBS which allow for some really free casting with heavier baits. It works great overall, but I’m not a fan of aluminum gears, so it’s waiting for some brass Engetsu gears. Wouldn’t throw a 6XD with it, but have thrown RC 2.5DD without issue.

You can buy the Caenan spool assembly from Shimano to get more line capacity for the Engestu BB. Does anyone know if there is a higher line capacity spool for the Stile SS?
