Help with my Sol

Between the zonda honeycomb and the sv105 which would you guys pick?

The sv105 spool is a nice capable spool that will cast down to 1/8 oz and works very well for skipping. I don't own the zonda honeycomb.

Thanks, I really like the look of the honeycomb, just can't find anything on its performance compared to the 105sv. Do you think they both throw the same weight lures? Probably mostly a cometic/price difference between the two?

Chris, I'll throw my reel with the Megabass Zonda honeycomb this weekend and try and give you some feedback on it. As I mentioned via PM, I've not really thrown it much since installing it in my reel.

So, originally I wanted to use this strictly for lightweight treble hook baits. (Still want to) I was just curious if the zonda honeycomb would be able to throw up to 1/2oz cranks or would it get a lot of backlashes? Would the stock spool or sv105 be better for 3/8-1/2oz weights?

3/8 and up, the stock spool is really great. Very good distance and still excellent control once dialed in. If you're looking for a good compromise, the sv105 spool is what you need. It can go pretty low, and still handle 1/2 oz.

Alright, well then I may be looking to trade/sell my megabass zonda honeycomb spool for a purple alpha sv105 spool. (Unless anyone has had a good experience throwing 3/8-1/2oz with the zonda)

Since I last posted here I've acquired a zonda honeycomb spool, thanks Winstondry, and IMO it is made for use with ML-M rods, 1/8-5/8oz or more, 8-14# or 20-40# braid. It is awesome for spinnerbaits, keitechs, and other typical bass baits that aren't particularly aerodynamic. I haven't tried skipping with it yet, but I'll probably give it a go this weekend. I have a feeling it will be very good indeed. In any case, I wouldn't go selling that work of art before at least trying it out first. I certainly wouldn't trade it for an Alphas SV spool, purple or otherwise. That's just me, though.

^^^I'm with you, Tony.^^^ Don't sell the honeycomb spool. Keep it and just buy the SV105 spool, if that's what you want.

Alright, you guys talked me into it. Also I forgot I have an alphas sv so I could try that spool first too before making a decision.

Good advice, Tim Dog. I'm pretty sure the sv105 spool is a little shallower, so maybe just get both and use 15-20# braid on it and 8-12# fluoro on the honeycomb? Just an idea.

Since I last posted here I've acquired a zonda honeycomb spool, thanks Winstondry, and IMO it is made for use with ML-M rods, 1/8-5/8oz or more, 8-14# or 20-40# braid. It is awesome for spinnerbaits, keitechs, and other typical bass baits that aren't particularly aerodynamic. I haven't tried skipping with it yet, but I'll probably give it a go this weekend. I have a feeling it will be very good indeed. In any case, I wouldn't go selling that work of art before at least trying it out first. I certainly wouldn't trade it for an Alphas SV spool, purple or otherwise. That's just me, though.

Swap out that big MB spool bearing for an AIR or ZPI, (or a Micro) and you will notice quite the difference whatever you are throwing. Don't forget the sideplate bearing. The stock bearing creates too much continued inertia, especially considering the thin, tapered inductor.

I've never changed a spool bearing and don't have a tool. Is it pretty easy if I buy a tool for shaft pin?

Yeah, it's easy if you have a tool. I use Boca pliers, but the Hedgehog tool works fine, too.

Well I'll have to give it a try then. O have another spool of like to change bearings on as well so I guess it would be worth the investment.
