Curado I Grinding Problem
I own 7 of the Curado I series and 3 of them have developed a grinding feel on the retrieve. It comes and goes, if the drag is pulled out a little it will come back. Then I pull the drag a little more and it goes away. You can really feel it while using a crankbait. I disassembled one and couldn’t see anything wrong. The drag washers looked good and they were properly greased.
Anyone know a fix?

Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Re: Curado I Grinding Problem
I experienced something similar on one of my Curado i reels.
In my case it was the spool pin backing out to one side and grinding on the inside of the hole in the frame where it meets the pinion gear.
I pulled the spool and recentered the pin and have not had any trouble since.
Will be watching this one for your diagnosis...
Daiwa who? I want a real tool... not a toy with gimmicks!

Why is there a concerted effort of hate? And why is it allowed?

Time for a new gear set. This reel has become notorious for getting geary with use. I believe the Engetsu micro module gears fit if the 70 and 200I share the same gear set.

I'll consider that if I can't fix it.LowRange wrote:Time for a new gear set. This reel has become notorious for getting geary with use. I believe the Engetsu micro module gears fit if the 70 and 200I share the same gear set.
ShimanoFan:
It's not the spool pin. I switched out the spool with a good reel. I also just removed the spool and spun the handle, still there.
It's odd, the grinding only happens when the drag washer is at a certain position. If I put my thumb on the spool and turn the handle slightly it feels perfectly smooth.

Have you checked the actual drag washer for defects?

In this particular scenario it doesnt sound like it, but they are common for pinion bearings to be bad. Both of them get changed out if factory when one comes along my bench for a service. I have seen them make some weird noises.

Yes, they are uniform with no defects.Slazmo wrote:Have you checked the actual drag washer for defects?
I'll check those tomorrow, I am going to disassemble another one. I was thinking it might be one of the washers the drag rubs on. 3483 or 4868LgMouthGambler wrote:In this particular scenario it doesnt sound like it, but they are common for pinion bearings to be bad. Change gear sets between the two reels to as if the problem follows the gears.

Re: Curado I Grinding Problem
The fact that it comes and goes makes it difficult to diagnose. Would say it’s not the gears since you would feel it on every revolution of the main or pinion gears. Same with the Pinion bearing(although like Gambler said, it’s always a good idea to check this bearing). I would say swap Anti Reverse Bearings with one from a reel that’s smooth to see if anything changes. Also might want to check the Xship bearing under the cast control cap. Water can get in there and seize that bearing over time. Pinion will still turn, but won’t be smooth.

I was messing around with one of them last night and I noticed that it felt like something was rubbing. I could feel it in the same spot with every turn of the handle. I'll check all the bearing.

Re: Curado I Grinding Problem
If your feeling it in the same spot, it definitely could be the gears, although it shouldn’t come and go. If it’s happening with each full turn of the handle, main gear would be what’s causing it. LowRange has some good advice, if the bearings seem ok, start swapping some parts.Markanthony404 wrote:I agree.JBcrankaddict wrote:The fact that it comes and goes makes it difficult to diagnose.
