Re: Tranx 200 punching
I like the longer handle, bigger grips, beefier gears, and it could double as a swimbait reel better than the Curado K while having the same frame / profile.

Re: Tranx 200 punching
I thought the 200 Tranx was considerably larger than the Curado K?

Such a confusing reel in comparison to the larger brethren...
Not sure if it got the spec it truly deserves.
Can anyone confirm if it runs the semi MM gears like the K or it runs the conventional cut gears?

Good to know. I must have been confusing it with the 300. It would pair well to punching and big bait use.DChiWildcats wrote:Nope same size. Fondled one today, decision made.

I will have to take a closer look at this reel. Seems It might make a good fit for stripper fishing for me.

Re: Tranx 200 punching
Just looked at my TranX 200 packed for a Colombia Amazon trip and compared to the Curado K. Identical casing except for the color, didn't do much research on it but figured it must be a bit beefier than the K for ripping big woodchoppers all day. I've used the 400 size with a Hawg handle the last few trips and it's a bit large but not bad.
The old Lews Super Duty wide speed spool has seen a lot of abuse and some dunks in the Amazon and still works fine but boys still need new toys.

Re: Tranx 200 punching
There was a teardown and comparison between the two done by a Youtuber recently. While they are very similar the Tranx 200 has some additional salt water provisions. It also has a bushing supported pinion instead of the bearing supported pinion in the K which I find odd as well as larger teeth on the gear set. No detent on the clutch which would have made it more big bait friendly. The reel strikes me as more of slat water friendly Curado K. A Curado K Inshore if you will. For fresh water swimbait and punching use a Curado K would be just as good.

Re: Tranx 200 punching
I would have to agree. At the price Ks are going for online it's pretty much a no brainer, for under $150 shipped it's a great deal. The TranX 200 feels very similar, much smoother than I'd expected with all the super duper micro module gear hype going around and it seems the gears are more stout. None of my other reels are near as buttery smooth as the Antares HG but it is bigger and heavier. The Metaniums both with stock gears and brass replacements are excellent reels however switching back and forth to the Curado Ks there isn't that much difference plus the Ks hold a lot more line.LowRange wrote:There was a teardown and comparison between the two done by a Youtuber recently. Re: Tranx 200 punching
The K also has much more pinion support if you watch the teardown.
Additionally, one area that let's water in on the K is the hole the thumbar lever passes through the frame. There is no change to Tranx 200 where the 300 and 400 have a rubber "drape" in that area. Lastly, here is the gear comparison. I can't argue one way or another here. This is just for reference. Tranx is on the left. Check out TA's videos on YouTube for the entire 30 minute video. He is awesome!
If fishing fresh water, the K might even be more robust. Certainly not an improvement unless you are fishing Salt.
