Re: Daiwa Reel
If the Daiwa Alpha Airs reel is not the best, what reels would be better for light lures?
Re: Daiwa Reel
Daiwa Aplha Air Stream Custom should do well out of the box.jrog540 wrote:If the Daiwa Alpha Airs reel is not the best, what reels would be better for light lures?
Re: Daiwa Reel
Whats your definition of light lures? 1/8, 1/16, 1/32? The air stream custom would be the best bet for the lightest lures but if you plan on casting 1/8oz range the alphas air or sv light may be a better option.
Re: Daiwa Reel
I should have been more specific. My definition of light lures would be 3/16 to 3/8 oz. for bass. The Alpha Air Stream Custom is too light with a too small line capacity for bass.

Perhaps for 1/4 and up, but oftentimes bass want smaller baits than that. That's what I intend on using mine for. If you're in shallow water, fishing from shore, or fishing vertically (drop shotting in deep water) it has plenty of capacity for 6# line. It will easily cast 1/8 and lower jigs and spoons for distance and accuracy no problem. You can also cast less aerodynamic baits, say a weightless 4.8 flick shake or 3" easy shiner/swing impact. Also, it has more than enough smooth drag for bass. 3/16-3/8 can be handled with any SV reel and the right rod.jrog540 wrote:I should have been more specific. This is the way.

Re: Daiwa Reel
The Alphas Air will do that easy.
Like said before, SV reels are pretty capable at those weights as well, especially the shallow ones.

Thanks to all for your info and recommendations. I just ordered a Diawa Zillion SV TWS reel and can't wait to try it out.
Re: Daiwa Reel
It all depends on the lure weight youll be casting and spool capacity you need. Alphas Air Stream Custom may be a great new thing, but the capacity on it is non existent.
If you want something for dropshotting, i really like the Pixy's. Will handle your 3g-3.5g with the stock spool and have pretty much perfect capacity for an all around finesse reel.
