Daiwa Ryoga Sizes? What does it all mean?

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Daiwa Ryoga Sizes? What does it all mean?

Post by Reverendo » Fri Nov 30, 2018 8:20 am

I'm looking into a Ryoga to complement my Pluton and Millionaire 300 & 253, however these unfamiliar model numbers do not really give me an idea of their actual size. I'm seeing Ryoga 1015, 1520, 2020 and 300 Shrapnel. From what I gather it looks as though the 2020 is a JDM. Can you confirm that? I'm also assuming the 2020 is the same size as the US version 1520, but again, I'm not sure. Finally I'm assuming the 1520/2020 is about the same size as the Millionaire / Luna 250 models? Am I close or way off?

The 1016 is about like a Luna 103, so maybe the 1520 is like the 203 and the 2020 is like the 253. The Shrapnel and Luna 300 look like the same size to me.
This is the way.

1016 uses same size spool as a 103 but body is slightly larger with much bigger gears, and takes all rcs 1000 size spools.
The 2020 is the same size as a pluton, spools interchangeable , so wider and larger diameter than the 1016.
The Shrapnel is same diameter as a 2020 just a lot wider similar to a 300 millionaire/luna and uses same gear sets as the 2020 bay jigger reels.
The 1520 is same diameter as the 1016 with a wider body and I believe spools may be interchangeable with the tws zillion 1516 reels

Does that mean SPOOL OPTIONS for the Zillion TWS??
