Bantam MGL 8 vs. 7

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Bantam MGL 8 vs. 7

For those that have both, does the faster gear ratio have less torque than the 7:1.1?
In my Daiwa line ups the 7.9:1 reels feels exceptionally good when retrieving s/b

I haven't personally compared the two, but I would assume that with this frame and gearing pair, there would be no lost torque between the ratios.

Also helps that the 8 speed has a larger handle. I think the 7 and 6 have the 84mm. Wish they would get away from that, like they did with the Chronarch MGL, it has all 90mm and the XG gears get a 96mm.

The Bantam XG will have a 6mm longer handle and slightly bigger knobs too, the ones from the Curado K I think. This should compensate the slight torque loss from a slightly higher IPT.
