Abu’s spinning backwards

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Abu’s spinning backwards

Post by 5bites » Sat Nov 10, 2018 3:43 pm

My son has a blackmax and a Revo x. Occasionally on a hookset, working a lure, or snapping a hung bait free the spool and handle will go the wrong direction causing all kinds of problems obviously. I assume it’s either the one way bearing or the spool isn’t engaging the pinion gear correctly. It’s odd that’s it’s two reels of the same manufacturer doing it.

The handle going backwards should not have anything to do with the gear or the pinion. The handle is directly connected to the AR bearing by the drive shaft, so it should not be going backwards no matter what mode the reel is in.

Try a drop of oil in the AR bearing. We see the same thing in spinning reels when they dry out. Don't use any grease. Just a vapor thin coat of oil should help the bearing function better.
Why is there a concerted effort of hate? And why is it allowed?
