Greetings !
Just looking for a spinning reel in the 1000 size that would be used for 2lb line mostly.
Occasionally 4lb test. Fishing freshwater for Browns and Rainbows (up to 6lbs) using Trout Magnet system.
So a great drag is a must.
Also looking for a decent 2lb line recommendation.
Thanks, Tom

In the Shimano series, a Ci4+ or above will provide a really good drag.

I've never used line that small on a spinning reel but I have used 4 lb Maxima fluorocarbon as tippet on a fly rod. Maxima is pretty popular with the fly fishing crowd.

A Stradic Ci4+FB would get the job done. I'm using a Revo STX20 right now on a 6'Light and once it dies I will get another Stradic, but a 1000 size this time. You can supposedly further improve the already amazing drag by adding Carbontex drag washers for a pretty cheap price. The Daiwa 1000's (Ballistic and Tatula) are nice too, but I am not sure they are quite as small as the Shimano spinning reels are. I think a 1000 size Daiwa (of those series versus Stradic/Sustain) is more like a 1500 Shimano; the Daiwa 1000 is supposed to hold 30-40 more yards of 6lb line.

Don't forget the C2000 size shimano's a well. Can't go wrong with a stradic.

:D I have the Ballistic, Tatula and numerous Stradics. Both the tat and stradics are super smooth and a pleasure to fish. The ballistic is not as smooth so cannot recommend it although I bought it after reading many good reviews.

The tat just looks very cheap in all black and being made of zaion really has no curb appeal if looks are your thing but it is very smooth. The ci4 stradic is both smooth and "pretty". The stradic fk weighs a bit more but also is super smooth.

All have great drags and I cannot complain about anything other than the ballistic not being buttery smooth like the others.
I have mine all loaded with 6# Fireline ultra 8 braid and a 6' mono leader mounted on a variety of rods- Personally my first choice is the stradic fk mounted on a loomis HSR 901 for bubble fishing for trout.

Pay attention to the rate of retrieve as some 1000 sized reels are much slower than a 2000 or higher sized reel.

Thank you! I was leaning towards Shimano, now I have some comparison to do.

Thanks, Tom

Highly recommend stardic ci4+
Pairs UL/L rods very well beacuase of it's weight.
Check out JDM tackle stores online. Reels are cheaper and you'll have way more options (models /speeds)

Second the Luvias recommendation. Mine is smoother than either a Stradic Ci4+ FB or a Excense Ci4+. I thought both the Shimanos were butter smooth till I got a Luvias. It weighs about an oz more but not noticeable on my rods.
