Which reel for a 1/2oz swim jig + 5" swing impact fat trailer?

For a 1/2oz swimjig + 5" swing impact fat trailer, the Steez SV seemed to be over braked and it felt like I couldn't make a long cast with 30lb braid to 14lb fluro leader. Steez SV was probably not the best choice of reels for that lure but I was in a pinch.

What reel would you guys use to throw some 1/2oz and up stuff?
Rod I was using was a Destroyer FMJ.

Hows the Steez A at casting heavier stuff?

I have a sv103 w/ 1016sv spool on my FMJ and love it, it casts everything I have tried well.

I am curious, do you know the total weight of your 1/2jig+trailer? I have thrown a ~1oz glide bait on my FMJ but that is as high as I have pushed it.

Didn't know you needed a special reel for that. Are you sure it isn't just a desire to buy another reel? :big grin:

Called me out on that real quick LOL.

Well, the Steez SV it just seems overbraked, never really bothered me much until I tried bombing a heavy lure for distance, it was lacking distance and than it dawned on me... Could this be a reason to buy another reel? I'm pretty sure you already know the answer \:D/

Zillion SVTW or Steez SVTW depends on budget.

Yeah, but aren't they too heavy for today's fishermen?

My 50th Anniversary is one of my favorite reels. However, it is a wonder I can still cast with it given its weight and my age. :laugh1:

Sorry. Couldn't help myself. It seems if a reel weighs more than 6 oz. anymore it is considered "heavy" and too tiring to use all day. No idea how I was able to fish my Mitchell 300 for hours when I was 6 years old.

You mean curls with at least 10 lb dumbbells. You might have to fight the ladies for them.,

I'm a workout fanatic so when I hear guys on here complaining about a reel the weighs 7 or 8 ounces it cracks me up. To each his own. I fish zillions and Tats so I have no issues.

I use Zillions on my swim jig set up.

Just picked up a Steez A, going to attach it on a destoyer x7 EMTF and throw some swim jigs tomorrow. Hopfully this steez A 1016 will be what the steez SV103 is not. If it isnt, well I guess I'll just keep on trying new reels till my hearts content

Looks like I'll always have reasons to buy more reels lol
