Steez or not Steez, why did Daiwa take the Shimano Scorpion spool design from almost 20 years ago and reintroduce it? I know I'm not the first to bring this to anyone's attention.

Just handled one at the ICAST On the Water demonstration. It is pretty much a Steez A in shape and size. Couldn't open the sideplate as they had them cinched down too tight for me to turn. We'll have more details in our coverage, but part of the reason why they were able to bring the price down is they're making this reel in Thailand of course... we also saw and sort of handled the new budget reels coming out of the Doyo factory... eh.

Daiwa updated their website and the 7.3 gear ratio is now a 7.1. Looks like it is a 34mm spool after all.

If the QC is there this sounds super promising. Now to jump on the early bandwagon and pre order or wait for the inevitable SV/Type R version... :-k

The handle nut really bothers me. Is this piece is from another reel? If not, why would they create something inferior to what is already available? I can't see a finished nut and retainer being more than a few cents difference.

I'm truly scared Daiwa is beginning to go cheap. I didn't realize they were hurting so badly.

The handle nut seems so bad to me because even the Tatula CT doesn't have that design. Some of the videos they showed had a black lock plate that looked okay though. This is why I'm forced to wait for the Type R or Zillion version. Maybe I should just own up and get a Steez???
