Daiwa Zillion handle

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Daiwa Zillion handle

Post by Warhawk »

I just picked up a Zillion HD TW. It has those huge foam knobs and I’d like to swap them for more normal sized knobs.

How do you remove the knobs?

Will any of the Daiwa RCS knobs fit?

Or would I be better off to get a whole new handle assembly?

Remove the cap on the end of each knob.
Remove the knob screws.
Replace with any knob that fits Daiwa reels.

Thanks ... I’ve always just replaced complete handles before. Do I need a special tool to get the caps off? I don’t want to scratch things up being a dumbass.

Yes there is a tool for doing those knob caps. It can be purchased I believe from Hedgehog and possibly Daiwa.

Ops!
For these knobs I use the Daiwa tool or a bent nose needle plier like this.
Be carefull, it's easy to scratch the cap

I had the same issue. I used a fork where I bend all but two of the fingers back.

Still havent found knobs that fit the handle of the Zillion HD though. Did you have any luck?

Any Daiwa or RCS knob will fit it.

It does not!

I tried the knobs of my SV103 on the Zillion HD and the knobs do not fit...

The new Zillion TW HD definitely has a different handle and knob design I haven't seen before. Possibly it is just not compatible with the other standard Daiwa knobs.

Ahhh did not realize you were referrencing the new one from Japan. That little information would have been helpful in the beginning.

I am not. I am referring to this model: https://www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-zlnh ... gJUDfD_BwE

The knobs of the SV103 def do not work on it.

Interesting, because I have a set of knobs from a Zillion Type R handle on mine. And those knobs interchange with every other Daiwa and RCS knob out there.

Just for giggles, I just went and swapped a Zillion R knob onto a used Zillion TW HD I have in the shop. Fits perfectly fine. Did you make sure you didn’t leave the bushing in the bottom of your SV103 knobs?
