I should have been more clear.Just wondering if it is made in Thailand where the Daiwa's are made or in Korea where the Doyo's are made.

Typically only the higher end Korean oem platforms are made in korea.

These new reels don't match up with any known oem platform. I wonder if they are Daiwa designed frames and side plates with oem guts sort of like the 13 reels.

Well, I went ahead and ordered one. Will try and post some decent pics of the internals and initial thoughts upon arrival. In no way do I expect it to perform on the level of my Japanese made reels, but I'd like to think Daiwa wouldn't put their name on a complete dud.

The CR80 would look good on an Arid X and would be cheap too. Maybe the two will sold as a combo at some point in stores. Cabelas used to sell the silver Lagunas on orange Arid rods in store. Lews has really gotten into this game with matching rod and reel combos sold in stores like Dicks. The CR80 and the Arid X are high end in appearance and would upstage most combos on the rack of similar price.

If you type CG80 into YouTube you will find an on the water review of the reel where the guys fishes it with a 3/8oz texas rig. It looks like it casts like a Black Max or something.

Reel feels pretty smooth out of the box with very little handle play. Definitely came well greased, unlike the Tatulas and Fuegos I have, not surprised since its a different factory. Will probably take it on a test run at a local pond tomorrow, then put it through some serious work on my smallmouth trip next weekend.

looks like every other reel to come out of that factory.. I know why they went that route, and some were not too happy about it at ICAST... Its def a reel will not be buying..
