Daiwa spool swap - sv103, t3 etc

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Daiwa spool swap - sv103, t3 etc

Post by Dalleinf » Fri Mar 02, 2018 9:56 pm

I have really come to enjoy the possibility of swapping spools - and buying new spools :D - for my Daiwa reels.
Recently, I have swapped spools between my T3 SV and my 103SV, which worked great. The SV103 suffered from too intense braking with stock spool and casting distance improved with the new spool. The spool from the SV103 has been good in the T3 where I can utilize the long cast mode and low brake settings.
The SLP 1016 G1 is great in my Ryoga.

I guess that there are other great options that I should try for my T3/SV103/Ryoga/Steez and other Daiwa reels. I have ordered some ZPI spools from Japan, which I hope to get this spring. What have been some of your best spool swaps?

How does the SLP G1 spool do in the sv103? Have you tried it yet?

Zpi Nrc001-m in a T3 is incredible, as is the G1 1012SV.
My 2nd favorite spools are the dimpled limited Steez SV103 and SV103. I run these in my Steez and Tdz platforms. Both of these spools in a T3 makes for an over braked reel imo.

I agree, the SLP G1s - both 1012 and 1016 - have been great in my T3s (as well as my Ryoga).
Spookybaits, I have also used both SLP G1 spools in my two SV103s where they are also very good, albeit a little more wild / less well behaved in my hands (vs SLP spools in my Steez and Ryoga)...I get good distance and can throw light lures, but get the occasional very slight backlashes (loose loops of line) if I am not careful. I have only used the SLP spools in the SV103 on a few short trips so perhaps I just need more time with the combo. Note, that I mainly use 1/8 to 1/4 oz lures and 10-15lb braid with all these reels (for large sea run brown trout).

I ordered both the ZPI NRC001-M and PG (primarily to try in my Steez and SV103) but will also look for the dimpled spools.
