What do you guys think of this vs the Metanium 13 and Metanium MGL?

Casting, smoothness and retrieve?

I have five of the right handed retrieve in the XS and five in the H. I have been a Shimano guy for almost 20 years. Within the last year and a half I have fallen in love with these reels and Daiwa reels in general (but more specifically these). I have owned both a Metanium MGL and Chronarch MGL (they were great but no longer own them) but I truly love the SV103 reels more than any other current production reel at this point (we will see with the new Bantam if they are the Shimano equivalent to these). They are smooth, durable, versatile, can use a variety of 34mm spools (TD-Z, Steez, 1016, Zillion SV, Megabass, etc.). They are built like a fine watch with all durable parts that should last many years. They are like the best of both worlds...TD-Z performance with spools, OG Zillion durability. Hope this helps! Have you tried the SV TW?

LOL wow...maybe I should read! I thought you meant the SV103 series. I have not used, but have heard some really awesome things about the Steez SV TW. I held one at SFT last year and they were like butter!

I'm talking about the Steez SV 103 xsl, but was wondering how it compared to the Steez SV TW.

As much as I thought I wasn’t going to like it, I use it a lot. It is a little watered down compared to the 1st gen. It’s just not as solid feeling as the 1st gen steez but it also doesn’t feel as cheap as the ss sv. Stock spool does pretty good for all purpose use. It could be a bit less braked but it’s again not as bad as the ss sv or sv103. A spool swap can definitely wake it up a bit but isn’t totally needed. Only thing I’ve done was install a set of yt fusion bearings. Haven’t pulled the trigger on the sv tw Steez so I cant offer any comparison between the two.

Steez SV103 for half ounce and up
Steez SV TW for half ounce and under.
It's as simple as that imo. Both are great, but the SV TW is special.

I was stupid and sold my SV103XS because I thought I would want to try something new. Now I miss the reel and think of getting a Daiwa Steez SV 103XSL instead (300 USD). How does the reel perform with 1/2-3/4 oz Jigs and Paddle tail swimbaits?

Why don't you just wait for a used SV103XSL to come back up for sale and re-buy one?

Also if I have to pay 230 USD for the SV103 wondering if for 70 USD more the Steez SV103 is a better choice.

I'd say in terms of performance they are relatively close. I think the SV103 is the better choice for 3/4 oz jigs due to the all aluminum build. I prefer the Steez SV103. It's lighter and fits my preference in terms of fishing better. It kind of combines that solid feeling of the SV103 with the precision and fluidity the Steez platform is known for, resulting in a smooth and connected sensation.

They are out of production and out of stock but occasionally you see one for sale. Over the long run, I think you would be better with it than the Steez SV103XSL.

remember that the steez is a fresh water only reel.
I would find a SV103sxl personally..

I will be doing this comparison in a few days I have a Met 13 XG, Met. MGL XG and a Steezs SV 103XSL both of the Mets have the Brass gear conversion. I have them spooled with the same line so it will be a head to head test. I just bought a Curado K 201XG yesterday and it is going back today! I'm not impressed at all with it so I now have concerns about the Brass gear conversion in My Mets...
